I wonder if our Spanish contingent can help: We are off on our regular jaunt via Alicante Airport to Lorca at the end of April for a couple of weeks and for logistical reasons are flying out on a Sunday.

Now, it seems from searching the Interweb that there is a disinclination for Supermarkets to open on Sundays, as a rule - but I did spot that Eroski at Elche sometimes does.

Presumably that's to satisfy peak demands, one of which will inevitably be the Tourist Season and I was wondering when the Spanish actually consider that to be?

I mean, is there a cat in hell's chance of being able to get self-catering supplies on a Sunday in Springtime?

Are you arriving AM or PM? There is a similar lack of shopping availability in France (or at least where we go) but there are a few supermarkets open on Sunday mornings. Absolutely nada in the afternoons and it may be the same in Spain.

Well we're flying RyanAir so the timing's in the lap of the gods!

But, currently, we land at 11.35 am, so should be in the Hire Car around noon.

I Think Eroski should be open for part day and also Maxi Dias might be open too

I don't think Iceland are open on a Sunday though

Quite. At least there's good old Ginsters as a cabin bag standby!

Hopefully Huevos or one of the other Spanish Greens might know.

Very unusual for any proper supermarket to be open on Sunday. A handful open one Sunday per month. But mainly in tourist towns. Only proper supermarket that I can think of that opens reliably on Sunday is Carrefour Planet in Finestrat, but that is in the completely wrong direction.

Is one allowed to carry something containing meat onboard a flight these days ?

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

You'll be lucky with ryanair, they'll take anything that can be eaten and drank for themselves and demand an extra charge for carrying something they don't want you to have cos they want it for themselves...

I assume you're flying out of Leeds Bradford and can't remember from last year, what shopping is after security but I suppose it's possible you could buy something before boarding...as yet Mr.O'Leary hasn't instituted spot checks on hand luggage for pasties...though give him time....

Thanks, H: I think Plan B might be to get our Landlord (We know them reasonably well by now) to do a small Ham, Cheese, Bread and Wine run for us, then.

Just had a look-see where Finestrat is: Definitely the wrong direction!

I probably need somewhere in Elche, or possibly the outskirts of Murcia close to the A7.

Well out of the way.

If you've got any hope it will be...

There is an Eroski superstore on the motorway about 5 km before Murcia. Or there may be a few options on the Ikea complex a few km further along.

Any other "supermarkets" that are open on a Sunday are going to be extremely expensive and all brand name products. Personally I'd never consider doing any shopping on a Sunday for just this reason.

Yes, saw a similar report a couple of days ago.

The odd thing is, we've found Supermarkets open in other, less populated, parts of Spain up until 3pm on a Sunday, so there is no consistency.
