Firstly, please move this thread if it is in the wrong place, I wasn't too sure where my Q fits.
I have the above STB which receives Digiturk channels in Turkey. I am trying to figure out why the quality of the HD isn't as great as I am used to in the UK and I am wondering if a box upgrade would help.
According to the spec of the box, it can handle the following stream type:
MPEG-2 ISO/IEC 13818 Aktarım Özellikleri
For comparison, the same box but two revisions on, the HD 9505 HD can handle:
MPEG2 (HP@HL), H.264 (HP@L4.1)
And what I believe to be the latest Sagemcom boxes can handle:
MPEG-4 AVC HP@L4.2 (HD) 50 Hz için
Now, looking at the channel S Spor HD, which is one of the channels I think isn't the best quality,I find this entry on lyngsat:
This suggests that this channel is broadcast using the DVB-S2 system using MPEG-4 encoding. I've also confirmed this on the Eutelsat website.
What I don't understand is firstly, how does my existing box receive it when it only states it can handle MPEG-2? Is it possible that there are multiple transport streams for this channel, one using MPEG-4 and another MPEG-2? Is that something that happens?
Or, is my box only DVB-S (it doesn't state - but would support for only MPEG-2 imply it is DVB-S only and not DVB-S2?) and this transponder is broadcasting using backwards compatibility (I read about hierarchical modulation)?
Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a way of displaying the technical information about the stream when using the box.
