Good idea - nip down to the Bar and soak-away all the thrills of the day with Pastis and an enormous Armagnac.

(That's Pastis, not Pasties! You're not in Cornwall)

Just when you think things are going along really well.......

George has ruptured the water mains again...on the "live" side of the meter! Can we find a stop cock? Can we *!*! Now waiting for the French Water Board to arrive.

No, but perhaps I shouldn't have offered them a bottle of beer each (though only a small one) To be fair the mains came into the meter in a totally illogical direction.

The guy from the French water board has been, couldn't locate a stop tap so repaired the break live, gave me a bill and drove off. The main water feed is only on high pressure plastic pipe anyway, so not that easy to detect when digging at Formula 1 speeds like George. I've deposited the bill in George's pickup cab, it's now down to him!

Well let's hope that the rest of the work produces no more "incidents"!

At the end of Day 3......

No more rupturing of mains after the major repair. George and Neville managed to fill everything back in before 'close of play'. I asked George about gravelling out the "muddy" end of the driveway where they've been working and having quoted me roughly 1,000 Euro's (that's two large lorry loads of gravel, grading and tamping down with a 'whacker'). I said to go ahead and fit it in when he could.....'Monday' came the reply, which rather surprised me but as the diggers are here and their next job starts Tuesday, it makes logisitical sense rather than bringing the equipment back another time. So, it's all quiet till Monday!!

Soil looks very sandy. How about a Beach as your next Project?

Good idea! What possibilities....lying on a deck chair with rolled up trouser legs and a knotted handkerchief on your head while the chickens peck at your toes.......or having a goat chew on your 99........ah, bliss!!

Well, North Bay at Scarboro it isn't. In fact it looks more like the beach at Brighton (Sadly without nudists). There was no repeat of the swearing truck driver, as it was a smaller tipper lorry and he made three trips. The first delivery being at 8.15 this morning. George and Neville will finish off tomorrow morning with the vibrating whacker. Then I suppose I'd better pay them! I knew there was a catch.

So, the guys came back this morning and after they 'whacked' the drive, George 'whacked' my credit card. Well I couldn't expect them to do the work for nothing, though I lived in hope!!

I'm very pleased with the results and at last, I can park next to the front door steps. Only some tidying up to do and repairing of electric fences. The goats aren't normally that 'free range'!!

The landmine is just about where it always used to be, in the meadow. It is being carefully avoided by the goats, geese, chickens and the lone duck. The thought of burying it did cross my mind, but I decided not to in case I ran over it in the car.......it's the only mode of transport I have!!

Looks like they made a good job of it. I can't imagine anything going wrong.

The geese don't look very impressed though. That grey one seems to be looking down its nose at the new driveway! Perhaps they are not keen on all that gravel, it may still be a bit sharp for their feet.

Last night it was so chilly we had a portable Calor Gas Heater on.

This morning we had flash flooding.

This afternoon it's almost unbearably hot.

Welcome to Britain.

We had about an hour of torrential stuff this afternoon, and the two hours of drizzle.

Good for the garden though.
