Just a question on how people like to number their Vbox positions.

For me, I put in the actual orbital positions for western satellites and actual positions + 50 for eastern satellites.

For example: 11w would be put in as 11 and 30w would be put in as 30. 13east would be put in as 63 (13 + 50) and 40e would be put in as 90.

This works 90% of the time, except when it comes to managing extreme west and east satellites.

For example: 5e lives at position 55 but then what do I do with positions 55w and 55e? Both clash. Same with 53W clashing with 3e.

Additionally, I cannot store 46-49e under numbers 96-99 because these are 'reserved' for DiSEqC 1.0 switching on the Vbox (limited to 4 positions obviously). So I stored some somewhere random...

Does anyone else have a "system" or is it pen and paper type thing?

I set the dish to due south and do a reset on the V-box, head off to 70E and start storing positions from 1. Everything is then kept as an Excel file so I can keep a check on values and should the need arise have a very good idea where to find a satellite if the box is reset.

I use an excel document with the position numbers and satellite name printed on it.

I use a receiver to store the positions, never used any numbers on a V box

What if you have several receivers - how do you sync them?

I use one box that works along side with the V box for positioning, any other box has a separate feed from LNB, use split screen on TV and swap and change screen too whatever box I want to view,

The box that is used for positioning is always on view on split screen for moving position/nudging.

I start from 19.2E, because that's where my dish is usually sited, so 19.2E is 1, 16E = 2, 13E = 3, 10E = 4, etc.. until IO get to 30 W and then go back to 23.5E, and further East.
I have the positions written down, and on my PC, but as the V-Box II settings stay the same I can generally input all the satellites, on my VU+ receiver, in a couple of minutes, or less, after doing a fresh installation.

It varies.

In the old days, the Astra 2 birds were at 28.2E and Eutelsat at 28.5E.

Nowadays, all the current craft are around 28.3 E, but they are, necessarily, located well away from each other and also move around within a permitted "box".

like you know the orbit position for astra 2 is 28e right whats the actual position of it?
What does this have to do with my question about Vbox?

I have also made a spreadsheet where all receivable satellites are listed, starting from the very East one where the numbering of the positioner stars . So, for Fibo120, which is my turnable dish there are 41 positions listed.

just asking about positions and stuff, just interested.

You are entirely at liberty to start separate Topics for such matters.

Indeed, we'd prefer you did.

What about odd numbers for East 1E-93E and even numbers for West 0W-50W ?

That could work - would still need to remember the numbers or jot it down somewhere.

My method - and no better than any other.

All the east satellites use the nearest number, plus I use 1 for 1°west.
For the western satellites I use 50 from 5°w increasing by one for the next western satellite in turn. I cant receive beyond 45°east - so no conflict there. But, as you can image, my westerly numbering system is a mess as satellites I can receive have changed over the years.

Then I put everything on an excel spread sheet along with the vBox index position. I use the maths inside the spread sheet to predict where each satellite should be positioned - I know it's not linear, so it's a complicated formula.
