Here is my review

I received it today and at first it was loaded with the default image and the picture quality was decent not more, i knew it could deliver better with new image drivers and so on i loaded the latest DreamElite image and i must say the picture quality is excellent now.

Adjusting the Autoresolution settings to 576i for SD and 1080i for HD interlaced and 720p for HD progressive and turning off both options at the end for de-interlacing the image is much much better than my original DM800HD i had.

This is one really neat receiver, it's fast, great quality, nothing to complain about, it's the best receiver i ever owned and i wasted so much money on bad boxes like IPBOX9000, Azbox etc......

So thumbs up for great build quality.

I tested the tuner sensitivity as it's very important for me as i receive Astra2D with my Channel Master 120cm in Sweden, the tuner is much better than the one in my previous original DM800HD box i had and it's actually comparable to the old IPBOX9000HD with Sharp tuner i had, this time of day i get lots of pixelations with my original Sky HD DSI8215 receiver on the vertical transponders on Astra2D, but with Vu+ i have no pixelations at all so it's much better for sure, the DM800HD i had showed lots of pixelations as well.

So thumbs up for Vu+ Duo tuner sensitivity.

What i like also is the black remote control, the remote is much better feeling with the buttons than Dreambox own remotes, short stiffened feel of the buttons and the upgrade with USB is really great.

So thumbs up for the remote control and the excellent flashing options compared to Dreambox.

What more can you ask for? it's the best receiver on the market right now.

In short, its comparable to a DM8000 but costs half the price.

The hardware is very similar to that of the DM8000, so similar that you can run an image designed for the DM8000 on it (Not recommended though). The main difference in hardware is that it has two fixed tuners as opposed to the DM8000's potential 4 interchangeable ones.

The three main teams developing images for it (AFAIK)are Pli, VTI and Dream-Elite.

One of the big benefits as opposed to other Linux receivers on the market is that it uses a processor with the same architecture as the E2 Dreamboxs. This means that you can run anything compiled for Dreambox on the VU+, including the popular CCcam.

The VU+ Is in a "proper" size case, no over heating like some of the 800`s, like mine did. The shelf where I used to keep the 800 on has a slight bow from the heat!!

It also has 2 CI and 2 card slots. Updating the images is also easy, via a USB stick.

And at £400 its a bargain, get one wod you wont be disapointed.

I'm tempted i only wanted azbox for the 4:2:2 thing anyway, I've kept out of linux boxes after stupidly getting one of them technomate ones which was awful.

should go nicely on my 1.2m i've just got.

Well, it's the fastest performing Enigma2 receiver to date as the drivers are really slick.

One of the advantages of the Vu+ compared to other Linux receivers is that you can flash the image really fast by just putting the image on a USB stick, then you turn off the receiver, put the USB stick in the front, turn the power on and it will flash automatically, no other receiver can do it this good.

Picture quality is very good, at least as good as the Cuberevo which is considered to be the reference in picture quality.

I havent tested in a while, but I managed to simultaneously record 5 HD channels when I first got the reciever. That was the max only because the tuners were working to capacity. The resulting recordings were glitch free.

You can use a 3.5" SATA HDD internally, or an external drive (USB or eSATA). Transferring recordings to PC is no probelm via FTP or using external USB storage.

I just ordered mine from satellitetv dot ie for €399. It a good bit cheaper than any place else.
Should be with me on Tuesday. I'll be all set for glorious HD for the World Cup.

I'm used of using Enigma 1 so is there many advantages of Emigma 2?

As it's a duo receiver, 2 tuners, you only need a dual LNB, then you can either run 2 separate cables, from the 2 outputs on the LNB to the 2 tuners, or use shotgun cable, which is 2 cables combined together, whichever best suits your needs for installation.

surely i need a cable from a lnb to motor? so that would make it 2 from 2 lnbs and a third for the motor?

Depends on the motor, I'm using a 1224 which has dedicated wires connected to the motor, probably in your case you use the coax cable, which should probably be connected to Tuner A, on the VU+ Duo.
One wire goes from the LNB to the motor then to your receiver, tuner A, the second goes from the second LNB output to Tuner B.
What motor do you have?
