Thanks for the explanations and the testings Huevos and Pipino!

Huevos

On 57East in C band the signal of FOX Muvi is lower then Tele Tchad but very stable at my QTH.

On 49E try 3976 L 4285 3/4 it is the power tp from this satellite ; 3962 L 8570 3/4 also very strong

On 34,5W the signal of the feed is stronger then KNR's , but I don't know what's the problemo with RTI 'cause I have no signal on it now.Maybe tehnical problems, Have any ideea , please let us know!!

Finally

Please test 50W in C band , it would be nice to know the signal from this new sat

I've got plenty of space. I think an upgrade to 2m dish would hardly be worth it for C-band though. Right now, this dish is doing too much work. I would much rather have a fixed dish just for 28E because at the moment the missus records lots of stuff and that takes priority of this dish. Also, I want to see what the requirements will be for the new Astra 2 cluster before spending on new aerials. There's been a lot of pessimism on the forum about spot beams, but I'm an optimist and my guess is a small, not bigger dish will be fine, at least from this location but I'll have to wait and see.

Switched to the polar mount. I've still got to touch up the paint and tidy up the cables.

Nice move from the 1224 Huevos. At least you got to use the polar mount afterall...if that was the mount you had lying around if I recall?

just wonder why the change to the polar mount ?

is the 1224 not strong enough to pull the dish back up when your on the ends of the arc ?

you could be fancy and an actuator to the mount for dish elevation adjustment.

The polar mount feels rock solid compared to the 1224. There is zero backlash and zero up and down movement. When you push on the dish to test alignment it barely moves whereas with the 1224 there's a bit of movement up and down, and side to side. I've got a 24 inch actuator on there. 18 inches would get you from 60E to 60W on the central LNB plus you need a bit more to set software and hardware limits. The mount runs into itself before 60º so needs a bit of clearancing. Counting is much finer on the 1224 (about 12 counts per degree), but with the actuator even though it moves slower it's only 470 counts for the whole arc and they are bunched up at the eastern end.

The 1224 is plenty strong enough to pull the Gibertini dish up, it's only an ali dish after all, but the actuator has much more leverage. Being down here in Spain does mean the motor has to work a lot harder than in the UK though, and adding a couple of C-band LNBs and feedhorns multiplies that too.

I've put the linear C-band LNB on now. The linear LNB is on the east side of the dish (for west satellites) and the circular LNB on the west side (for east satellites) so I don't need to move the dish so far at the ends of the arc.

Very Very nice indeed Huevos ..
This is where using an offset dish for Cband scores massively over a PF dish ..
Such a large lnb and feed masks a shadows a significant area of a pf ...and adding a second doubles yer trouble ..
On an offset ..it makes no difference ..you can add as many as you like :)

btw ..how do you rate the Zinwells agains other H/V switched cband lnbs ?

I was just experimenting to see what there is on 2ºE. The LNB in the breech on the arc and the upper LNB is about 2.5º high so it lets me see that satellite when it goes below the equator. I'm working on a declination control setup at the minute so that LNB is going to go soon.

I don't know mate, these are the only C-band LNBs I've ever owned. I got them because they were what my supplier had, and they only cost 12€ each, so I'm in C-band on a budget for sure.

If you siamese the scalar rings the extra cross-section is going to be insignificant and also both LNBs are going to be almost spot on the focal point, which is a very different situation than mine.

Thanks for the siamese pic Huevos ..
I had considered doing something similar to embed a ku lnb feed within the C band scalar plate ...but I'm not sure I'd be happy compromising the Cband focal point and therefore the gain in that band..
It is afterall the prime reason for the PFs use ..and its very weak fringe reception I'm after..
Interesting tho' nonetheless.
