Usals problem & alignment

So east-west-wise the pole looks plumb. That's good.

Test/check of #8 and #16 was:
Are the dish and motor exactly in-line, while the motor is at zero-position?
You can test this in the trust-way (#16),
or by finding the exact middle left and exact middle right of the dish, and comparing length left to the back of the motor to length right to the back of the motor, while motor at zero-position. They should be the same.


Using the modified angles, if you like, is just a matter of using the chart(s) linked in my linked post. But the fact of your asymmetric arc-following problem is more important ATM, I would say.

Setting up a motor is best done by following strict procedure, step by step; as a 'fault' in an early step can hardly/not be counteracted in a later step.
Alas I haven't seen a USALS-procedure that I liked 100%, all have their pros and cons. Did you use a specific one? Which one (link)?

I will check the lengths tomorrow if it isnt raining and report back. I didnt follow any particular guide, I used what I had from memory from nearly 15 years ago. I read guides from quite a few websites to brush up on Usals setup. The new things I am learning are from here.
 
Is the Mio a 'Usals compliant' receiver ?

I recall a thread or two on here where the claim was some receivers are not Stab friendly, about two years ago

Good point. I will check when i get home. I'm sure there is a sticker. But like the thread said its good to contact Stab just in case its faulty and been refurbished. I will email them with the serial no. and see what they reply. The mio should be usals compliant and diseqc 1.x. Not seen any posts about complaints of Edision and Usals??
 
This is the dish at 0 position. The brackets look centre on pole but level says otherwise, bubble looks of center?? I have checked the length from back of dish to back of motor and they match.

But in the second picture the motor is not at exactly zero?
Or do I interpret the photo wrongly?

Yes, you are right it stops very slightly off 0, maybe 1 or 2 mm off. I thought that was due to my longitide? Or does that mean faulty motor

If not, rotate to exactly zero, and give the Motor reset command, if your receiver has that; or on the motor, if the motor has that.
Then the zero really is zero, and you can do the dish aligned to motor at zero check again.

I will have to double check again once i get the chance after work. I'm sure when I pressed go to 0 it stopped about 1mm or 2mm off 0 mark. I wonder if the Stab HH100 can be hard reset?

I notice in the positioner setup there is an option for "Calibrate". This increments and decrements the motor position and i assume it find how much the longitude setting is off maybe?? I get the followinf screen when it runs. Not found documentation about this.

And your receiver does not have the reset command (in diseqc 1.2)? Or the ability to give 'raw diseqc' commands?

Not sure if the recalculate/calibrate command could also affect the 0-position (as Goto-0 can be seen as a special GotoNn command, that is affected by the recalculate command?).
You could try: by giving the Goto0/GotoRef command, then move to factual motor-zero position, and give the recalculate command.
Afterwards check if Goto0/GotoRef now moves to exactly zero, or to the old motor position.

Otherwise we can fool USALS in your receiver. But we'll try that later, I guess, as proper zero of your motor is more 'neat'.

I pressed goto 0 then pressed calculate and it gave the following message in photo. I will check tomorrow if motor is dead on 0. The calculate button must reset all positions in motor

I received the following email from Stab about the motor.

"The motor is made in Jan 2010. I can't tell you if this motor is refurbished or not in our records seems not comes back for reparation"

Does this mean the motor is 2nd hand or that it was originally purchased in 2010 and sold on 10 years later?? I purchased from Amazon from A.M Sat shop
 
You would have to ask the supplier where it came from, though I can't see them in the Amazon vendor list.

Are they still trading ?
 
I'm thinking of returning the motor and purchasing one that hopefully is manufactured later than 2010. Is there a reliable source for Stab motors that sell newer produced Stab motors?
