Been monitoring the news feed on and off over the day. At 6pm local time the leader of the government outlined the de-escalation which it is going to follow. Quite complicated and lacking in some clarity, which no doubt will be explained in more detail. As usual the opposition parties and some of the regional governments are saying it´s wrong, they have been ignored, etc. etc.
Guess we´ll just have to wait and see.

Could not be bothered to cook too much today, made some garlic & parsley potato salad ( light mayonnaise ) and these.....
IMG_20200428_193347258.jpg

Prawns and garlic cooked in virgin olive oil.
Then dished the rest up

Bread, allioli, chopped tomatoes, olives with anchovies, boquerones, meatballs with peas in salsa.
Some left for tomorrow!

As do I, unfortunately the misses doesn´t like hot, very mild chilli would be OK, but then I would be disappointed by it. Needs some kick to be worthwhile.

Another day and a little more clarity in the muddy waters. Looks as though adults will be allowed out as from this Sunday, observing no contact and social distancing, but as yet no information as to limit of distance or time. At the moment the accompanied children are only allowed out for one hour and within 1Km of the home.
As of the 11th May small shops can re-open as can restaurants but only on the terrace with " table service " and 30% capacity, still observing social distancing. If that goes well with no increase in new cases of the virus, the next stage can proceed. Still a lot of clarity required, but things are looking up!

As for tonight´s meal, very similar to yesterday, but to replace the missing prawns and meatballs.....

Muslitos de Surimi and croquetas jamón, and a little bottle of sauce!

Well, a little more clarity from the gov in Spain. As of Saturday we are allowed out for an hours walk or a run or bike ride etc. If walking, only permitted within one Km of the house, run or bike, only within the municipality. Only at certain times so we don´t clash with the elderly or under 14´s in their respective timeslots! But it´s a start.
More clarification of phase 1 de-escalation which should allow us out for longer and some shops etc will be open. May be able to get to a hardware shop for some things I need.
Either way, the misses decided to get back on the diet and give up the high sugar, high fat diet, so made some burgers with lean mince etc, but no breadcrumbs or other stuff not allowed. Thankfully, she splits the mix and adds chilli flakes to mine.
The misses had hers with a healthy salad, I unfortunately had to eat two of mine, she said one was a bit thin, so I added cheesey chips to complement it!

At least I didn´t add ketchup :p

I´ve set the alarm! As of 06:00 tomorrow I can go for a walk, a run or bike ride! Only allowed out between 06:00 - 10:00, after that it´s the over 70´s or people with dependants, they get until 12:00. 12:00 - 19:00 is the under 14´s ( have to be accompanied by an adult ), then it´s back to the over 70´s until 20:00 after which the 14 - 70 year olds are allowed out again until 23:00. Other than essential workers are then locked down until 06:00 the following day.
Cats, dogs and all the other walkers and crawlers not human can do as they please!
There are some rules, no using any form of motor transport to get to where you want to exercise. If walking within 1Km of the house, running or on a bicycle within your town hall boundaries.
If your municipality has less than 5000 people you do not have to observe the times, you can go out when you like for your hour.
If all goes well, I assume the hour limit goes out the window when some shops and restaurants are allowed to open, need to get clarity on that.

And so to dinner. As you know, due to the immanent release, the misses has decided to go healthy. Well, until I cooked these......

IMG_20200501_185823118.jpg

Garlic and butter roasted crispy potato slices!

Add beef stifado, carrots julienne and sliced runner beans....

IMG_20200501_190523879.jpg

Finished with a chocolate and vanilla cornetto copy!

Stuff the slimming stuff! :-rofl2

Actually no....I believe some parts of France do 'pies' (en croute) but not in this area. I think 'tarte' is mainly for fruit dishes, like tarte aux pommes or tarte tatin, otherwise known here as 'I burnt the apples and turned the tarte upside down so you wouldn't notice'. Meat dishes with pastry are normally referred to as quiche or flans

Well....if SWMBO makes them they do and there would be severe and peculiar punishment if they didn't. The French don't really make a fruit 'pie' with a lid, hence the open tarte. There's a boulangerie we use, where she bakes a 'tarte aux rhubarbe' filled with creme patissiere. It's worth the 40 minute round trip...

A 'galette' can be open or closed, depending on how much pastry is made, for example

A galette is not strictly a 'pie' in that it doesn't have a filling. The 'Galette Des Roi' (which is made from flaky pastry) comes after Christmas to celebrate the arrival of the Three Kings. (Epiphany, 6th of January) The tradition locally is that the youngest child in the family hides under the table and decides which relative is served each slice. The one who finds the 'feve' or figurine gets to keep it, along with a visit to the dentist to repair a broken tooth and/or a visit to A&E to remove the feve. There must be a minority who still make galettes but judging by the huge numbers in the supermarkets just after Christmas, most are shop bought. I've tried several in the past (purely for experimental reasons) and have found them all to be bland and leathery in texture....

Similar to the Christmas pudding tradition then , though I always preferred the 'tradition' of injecting them with lashings of Drambuie.

No point in setting fire to the result either.

Interestingly, the French don't have a Xmas pudding, mince pies or Xmas crackers. Lunch on Xmas Day can either be seafood based or with 'exotic' meats, e.g. ostrich, wild boar, deer or kangaroo. Naturally we go to a restaurant for Xmas lunch and dinner on New Years Eve too...

Could you possibly offer a translation? Not sure if the restaurant is owned by Stallone or a cartoon cat.:confused

Nothing of importance to report today.
And before the quick wits reply, nothing unusual there then!
No food pics, re-heated the stifado and munched it with fresh bread.
Tomorrow will be the last roast for a while, getting a bit too hot for a roast, but to make the last one special bought a pound of frozen pork sausages which I intend to de-skin and turn into sage and onion sausage meat stuffing. Obviously will be cooking a chicken and will do the last of the season Yorkie as well.
Oddest thing about the shopping run today, there were people out. Not been seen for a while.
