Newbie to FTA

You arent poining at a satellite - in effect thats just the background noise
 
One other question. My dish elevation from the maps provided is 42.75 degrees and I set the dish to 45 degrees. 45 degrees gives me a clear line of sight to the sky not 42.75.
 
I think as previously requested you need to post a photograph of your dish and setup and actually answer the questions that have been asked of you.
Is it an offset dish or a prime focus dish?
What channels do you wish to receive?



If the profile picture you are displaying is actually your dish i.e. this

then it is no wonder you are unable to receive a signal, the signal path to the LNB is not coming from the Clarke curve. Firstly you need to determine the offset angle of the dish. If that is your dish in your profile then as Puerto Rico is at latitude 18.2 deg North (not dissimilar to the UK), and your dish is a standard 22deg offset then the dish face should be almost vertical. Viewed from where you are in Puerto Rico the top dead centre i.e. the top of the arc for your longitude are 65 deg West or 67 deg West because your latitude and longitude are 18.24914° N, -66.62804° E (66.62804W)

So first find one of those as a starting point
Your dish should look something like this

I am pointing to 10E Eutelsat Satellite

BTW. That satellite would be about 4 degrees above horizon at Puerto Rico.

Well, not for 10E? For what satellite position did you obtain that elevation angle?


It looks like you're mixing up quite a few things. So photoos would be a good thing, and a description of what satellite you want (fixed? or in motorized setup, which is much much harder for a newbie).

There is no part of the UK with a latitude near 18 degrees, a dish in Puerto Rico could look like the first image, if it was pointing at one of the US broadcast satellites.

Yes sorry my mistake it was late at night after my swim and I was bushed, but a simple photograph of his setup is going to aid diagnosis of his problem rather than having to 'guess' at what he has to begin with. Answering questions already posed would also be of assistance as well

Yes. If I reposition my dish to vertical which I had originally and pointing North since now facing East I would be asking signals to go through buildings and trees and mountains. Additionally, where can I display and how do I display my photos? The banner and background are photos of my dish and terrain.
 
Free to air in the UK means that there is no encryption, as you are looking at a Galaxy bird you are obviously over the pond where free to air means illegally decrypting encrypted channels, discussion of which we do not allow, of course, you would know that if you had read the rules when you registered. Thread closed

A satellite beeper will help immensely with aligning the dish. As you've been told before splitters will cause problems.

You are 18 deg North of the equator and thus the Clarke curve is to your South not North. Do you have line of sight to the South?

Where it says attach files, (just below where you are typing) you do just that, but they must be less than 1Mb in size, so you may need to use a program like pic resizer.

I do not have a line of sight South if My Dish is vertical. So I am just connecting to my line of sight Satellites. Can you see my photos in a separate POST titled My Dish?

The dish has an offset arm so even if the face of the dish is vertical the signal is coming in at abut 20-25 degrees above horizontal, not straight from the horizon which it looks like.

Now I am pointing to Galaxy 19 (97 West) . On Lyngsat when the satellite lists as C/KU band will my 39 inch KU band dish work with 97W?
 
C/KU just means it transmits both bands from the same position. For the C transponders you need a C-band LNB and generally a larger dish. Reception of KU from a sat listed as C/KU is no different to a satellite listed as KU only.

What have you received from 97W?
