so spent some time tweaking LNB on 40.5w for ESPN - gave up around 3pm, at 8.5db - this morning it was 9.2db no breakup - great - tonight, down to 8db and breakup

need bigger! wish CM did a 2m or a 2.2m for direct fit onto CM polarmount.

If ESPN use is only for soccer matches and picture speed in not an issue you could go for one of the Chinese boxes with a two year IPTV subscription enabled in the receiver when new.
In addition to ESPN. the IPTV server includes all the bein sports channels which have a large range of soccer matches from the UK and other main soccer leagues.

i lied, shortly afterwards, i was getting all sorts of breakup.

this morning. 9.0db and steady as she blows.

Checked it just now at 10.52am - a bit hit and miss on the 2.2. No interference showing on the Promax to upset it, seems a bit sensitive to accurate polarity setting today, clear blue sky to satellite.
Promax shows 10.5 to 11dB max, slight fluctuations. CS / EBSPro showing 8.5 dB or so.

@John

I have noticed that my Promax Ranger gives a larger reading of dB compared to EBS Pro or a satellite receiver.

If the frequency is one that is borderline such as 8PSK, FEC of 3/4 it needs a theoretical 7.9dB to lock.
When EBS Pro or a Dr HD F15 receiver show 7.7dB for example and below a lock, the Promax might show 9.0dB or even 9.5dB and fail to resolve the signal even though the Promax displayed value is sufficient to get a lock.

LNB in the focus is always better than mounting it cross-eyed, you just have to build an LNB changer like I have :D

Something changed with the ESPN signal a couple of weeks after that tinkering session ......
The last time i checked that transponder back in December with the 2.4 cm dish i struggled to get 10.0 db from it.
I,m not setup for C band with that dish currently .... will report my findings when i am.

thanks @nelson_b - that would tie in with my current issue, versus my reported April signal levels. however - i think i need to keep going until i match @scopus reported levels....im not far off.

Did the FEC change at some point from 5/6 to 3/4 or go up to 5/6 from 3/4 and back again?

The other point to consider is that the target audience is probably mainly Brazil/South America.
Provided the broadcaster outputs enough power on the footprint beam to meet their target audience reception needs they are satisfied.
They may have reduced the signal level on their side recently?

The signal is slightly better in the morning than in the evening. So anyone who can receive the ESPN transponder with a 1.8m dish has already made a very good setup, unfortunately the 1.8m dish is too small for continuous reception of ESPN.

i think thats been proven to be untrue though to be fair.

Think about it this way - IF the two positions ie: focus and offset lnb location show the same performance, the 'focus' lnb position could be wrong and the ideal lnb position could be in between the two somewhere . In theory the correct lnb position should give the best performance. I did an illumination video of a 1.8 CM using stock lnb position and the dish illumination was way out - just saying

thanks @John - i was going by @nelson_b 's test last year, where he proved signal was the same with CBAND lnb in focus position, and then, on top of the KU lnb

its unconfirmed, but my image shows 10.2db when the FEC was 5/6

Yes, it changed from 5/6 to 3/4 as it wouldn't download to the Dreambox until I changed the FEC..Sure it's still is 3/4.

It aint gonna lock until 9.4dB +/- a few tenths if it is 5/6.

Lock for 3/4 = 7.9dB
Lock for 5/6 = 9.4dB

That's how you tell.
If you are locking at 8.5dB or thereabouts it is 3/4.

Or, as @danny10 says, use a TBS card to blind scan the bitch, that will tell you.
