Astra 2E: Transit to 28.2E

It's moving west steadily, already can see the Hellas Sat Transponder bumps together with the beacon beeping.

Hi, and thanks for the replies.

Sorry. I thought that Astra 2E could transmit in band C as well.
(In that context, my question made more sense.)

Regards,
Bengt

Yes it can, but only 48 transponders available for UK TV. So If it replaces 1n and 2A that's it's full capacity used up.

2F will have capacity to take up the remaining TP's on 1N temporarily too as only 20 are currently in use. It could take on temporarily an extra eleven currently on 1N's PE beam + four or five data TP's from 1N too. Some of these would then be offloaded to 2G once she arrives.

i think first change
2f spot beam and same pe beam from 1n
any news from radio europe in spain what tp change ?

@solly: well it will be interesting whether 1N will stay until 2G arrives or being sent to 19.2 when 2E is operational at 28.2. We don't know, and guessing means easily burning one's fingers when it comes to SES. Predictions are always difficult when they are about the future.

the they was testing signal band astra 1n and astra 2f
104 tp signal test

Deja vu all over again?

Hi

Just noticed that another poster on the DS forum is now claiming that Astra 2E can definitely NOT transmit in band C.

After checking the 2E testing thread I found these frequencies in the list:
10964V/H, 10970V, 10986H, 10990H, 11011V, 11015V,
11030V, 11054H, 11090V, 11117V, 11134V, 11137V.

So I guess that answers that question.

Regards,
Bengt

Yeah, as far as I am aware it is band A which can't be covered by 2E. 2G should be able to cover both bands C and D too.

I knew compiling that list would come in handy for reference! :)

Can anyone give us an accurate-ish location of 2E this evening? She was at 41.3E at 2300 last night but the TLE's seem to have gone rather off-pan today for two of the tracking sites. Trying to gauge how far she's actually moved.

Were they Spot, PE or middle eastern beam? 11023H is C band and that doesn't seem to quite fit with the test frequencies above.

Did someone not produce a frequency plan of the various satellites and which bands were not planned to be active on which satellite?

I can already lock some of the Hellas Sat TPs and get a clear beacon signal... considering the beam width of the 125 reflector I think it is 40.1-40.3°E.

I made this one, but not sure how accurate my sources are (some SES documents, some launch sites):

Thanks timo_ws & hydh ; the one from Marcus_21 does seem to suggest that C band is not on 2E, still I can't see them moving stuff off of 2F onto 2E even if 2E is a much tighter beam which so far nobody has been able to confirm.

I found the following photos on the SES website

Does the visible reflector on 2E look bigger than the corresponding one 2F?

No, and you don't know which one is which. It has 4 reflectors in total.
