I wonder how the rest of uk would cope with snowfall like Canada, usa receive as the snow is hardly much that we get.

One would hope that the infrastructure would be updated to cope with the proper winter conditions. Of course, with our Government....

I've been ski-ing in Western Canada many times and on the news they're usually talking about "how bad it is on the Eastern side of Canada". It can get so cold that the ice forming on the power lines gets too heavy and causes them to break under the weight (-50/60 with windchill) with blackouts all over the place! It's usually "only" about -20/30 where we go. Also I've driven along roads in the USA where the snow is piled up 25ft plus on the sides of the roads with just a channel cut through for the road. People over there just get on with it because they're used to it, most of them have a big old 4x4, usually with a "blade" of some sort attached to the front or have chains and shovels etc, and people tend to dress accordingly, not going about in "trainers and joggers"

I thought I'd give my Briggs powered mower a cold-start today, only took 7 pulls to get it going... :-rofl2

Apparently there's more cold weather due this weekend, which I'm sure the national rags will call an arctic freeze, meanwhile people I know in canada are living their daily lives in -40 degree conditions, which is more of an arctic freeze than what the weather guessers are claiming...:-rofl2

Indeed.

On a side note, I am actually surprised the NE States across the pond are panicking over the snow fall they had recently.

From what I've just read on the BBC, the forecast has turned out to be somewhat error strewn for New York...not as bad as they were saying, leading people to bitch about the Mayor overreacting.....

I can understand how they feel. The last snow we had the forecast was for 3cms and we ended up with 60cms. The forecast for the end of the week is 6cms, so we've got the shovel ready just incase and today get some peasants stacked up at the door incase they have got it wrong again !!!!!!!!!!!!

I think there is a tendency nowadays to forecast a worst case scenario, then when you get off lightly you feel relieved. One of the forecast sites I look at is saying we'll have snow for three days early next week...I have no doubt that will change at least twice today....

Looks like snow fell today, so the predictions were kind of accurate in that they said there might have been snow today... :-rofl2
