Flash Up The Barbie 2015

Its been a pretty pi55 day here - not much sunshine, but stiflingly hot sticky and a heavy shower later morning. The office was unbearable on the last day of of the summer term.
 
Im shifting computers tomorrow so if its warm I shall be wearing my shorts!

The Barbie almost flashed itself up tonight ..
11PM and the skies were lit with the most amazing lightning I have seen for over 30 years ..
Needless to say I disconnected EVERYTHING for a couple of hours ..
including the Telephone line ..
so no internet ...no TV ...No satellite ...and even powered down my server ..in case of and abrupt power outage...
U can't be too careful when 1000s of ££s worth of gear is at stake..
Just sat outside in just shorts ...with a beer ...and gazed at the lightshow with a sense of awe..
Truely bloody amazing ..
Sheet and fork lightning from every direction.

Lol Evan, your old fashioned :), my now oldest bro is about your age and he does the same, I remember the days as a kid and my mum opening the door and unplugging the tv when the ariel was in the loft :-doh:-lol good memories :), I was trying to stay up and watch the women's footy, but time for bed come on girls :)

I may be a bit old fashioned but being a TV engineer I also have seen the results of both direct and indirect lightning damage ..
Tuner front ends are easily damaged by proximity strikes...
About 30 years ago my friend had his car roof bleached by a very close strike ..
Where once it was green ..it changed colour and was almost white afterwards.
Never say it can't happen ..cos it can.
And when your dish is sporting a Ka lnb that cost about 700$ ..it pays to be cautious.

The flashes were so bright it was like daylight ..
and the forks ...wow ..they were something else ..
I guess we were more or less under the centre ..
 
It was a stormy one round here too, trying to deal with the footage I recorded today but my laptops are deciding to be slow so it'll be too late to be any good... :-doh

A cool 18C right now! Though supposed to go up to 28C soon...
 
We had about an hour of rain in two bursts late last night. Quite a bit of lightning before the main downpour
 
Nice sunny day here, I have managed to cut the grass for the first time in weeks, good job it is garden waste collection on Saturday. Yes it is civilised in the north free collection of garden waste unlike Merton council, whose recycling centre I went to 3 times last week when at my son's in Mitcham
 
Glorious day here too .Very light breeze.Going down the garden now.
Spending some quality time watching the plants grow.
 
I did the mowing yesterday and the strimming today (would have done both the same day, but my Ryobi strimmer's acting up so had to bodge the 2-stroke stinker together with the Ryobi's shaft today, as the stinker's shaft is buggered), mid afternoon was pretty toasty round here so was quite a fun task trying to see what I was doing with sweat dripping into my eyes... :-doh
 
This really is taking the p!ss isn't it ..
at 22:00 I heard a noise I wasn't expecting ..
I was brewing a cuppa in the kitchen when my CH just kicked in ..
Thermostat set at 13deg C ..??
Is it really that cold out tonight ..
well ..just popped outside ...not a cloud in the sky atm ..
beautiful full moon ..so maybe a ground frost early tomorrow ..
just hope we reap the benefit in the form of sunshine ...which is sadly in short supply this summer..

Just let the BBC tell us how fekkin glorious we had it this year ..
So much fruit blossom earlier this year ..
So much ruined fruit due to wind and rain..
Good for slugs of course ..who just loved munching on my strawberries...
