Is there a precedent for a new Windows OS downloader to be included in a previous Windows OS list of updates?
I assumed all updates were exclusively for the current OS, and anything else has no place there.

Another w10 tamer, if anyone wants to test.

pXc-coding » DoNotSpy10

Take a look at the Current Features 'disable' list, all this constantly feeding Microsoft without the average w10 user having the slightest idea

Another tool to get rid of the telemetry

Spybot Anti-Beacon for Windows
Not sure if it's related but.....
I installed and ran this the other day when posted, this afternoon the power went out, when it come back on the windows 10 pc booted up and decided there was a problem with start up.
Then it decided that the disks need repairing and it's stuck on a page saying this could take over an hour to complete, this was 3 hours ago.

I need to try getting into safe mode or repairing startup with the install dvd when I get chance, see if that fixes it

^^^ surely not related to any program. If there was any disk activity at the moment of powercut, looks like 'something' happened to disk and\or file structure.

Proceed carefully! I'd take the disk out and connect to another pc and see what shows up. If it's readable, first of all backup all important files, then go ahead with any fix experiments. Good luck.

It went from repairing disks to start up couldn't fix the problem.

Then it gave the advanced options and other repair options including start with safe mode, none of which worked.
Has the safe mode startup option changed from F8? No matter how fast or for how long I hit F8 it won't boot into the safe mode menu.

I've left it for now until I get the time to sort it, I have a spare tower or two to try the hard drives in but don't have the time to be messing about at the moment.

The last time my wife's laptop gave me a similar sounding problem (stuck in a loop repairing) I took the hard disc out and, using a SATA to USB lead, attached it to my laptop. I then ran Chkdsk from my machine to fix the disc. This is W8.1 not W10 but it sounds similar.

I mentioned this in another thread and gave the switches that I used as these were W8 (and later?) specific.

I've only just this last half hour managed to get a computer up and running, I'm going to run Chkdsk when I find the power supply for my SATA to USB doofer

This is the post I was talking about Motherboard has died

If the drive you're checking is formatted in NTFS then you can use the Win 8 switches I used. these are /scan and /forceofflinefix

Sod it, I might just install Linux on the HDD and have done with it, Chkdsk found nothing wrong so I might as well back up what I can and take the plunge.

I have a 1 tb HDD full of movies and music formatted in NTFS, would Linux read/mount it or would I need to back everything up and format it for Linux?

Most Linux Distros these days can mount and read NTFS drives automatically, so you should be ok.

And, if not, there are Commands you can run instead.

What does the computer you connected the drive to "see"? Does it mount the HD as an extra HD or external drive? Maybe you can just go straight in from "My PC", or whatever it's called on your computer.
