Advice please on Polar Mounts for 1.2 Channel Master kit from Satellite Super Store

thank you @scopus
Is dish tight and reliable using only 3 Inch mast
also can you move dish on entire arc as I see that azimuth actuator Is too close to polar axis, are there any Issues with resolution when tuning to satellites

Very reliable. My pole is 4.5 inch, so that is why I had to get the pole adaptor as SS only make the polar mount to fit a 3 inch pole. I get 53E to 45W, I cannot get any further West as the house roof gets in the way and no further east because of my garage roof. So the polar mount will easily do 53E to 53W, just right for where my dish is situated.

I have a SS polar mount on my Channel Master 1.8, been on there for about 9 months, no rust as it's all galvanised. No problems, not cheap though.
Thank you for posting that information it is just what I was looking for.

Are the bearings they use just metal to metal and is there any play in them ?

I am due to location going to have to go for a 1.2 Channel Master which as of yet SS has not modified the mount to include an inclination jack.

I cannot see why I will not be able to do this mod myself looking at the versions with and without, as I mentioned in my original post they skip the question every time I ask it : )

One other question if I may can this arangement be set up with USALS or only DiSEqC ?

Kind Regards Allen and Alanna

No play in the polar mount. I cannot really see the bearings so can't comment on those. The only Diseqc option would be a V Box, turning Diseqc 1.2 commands to the 36V required for the actuator. The extra actuator I have is for inclined orbit tracking, again using 36V.

Hallo Scopus Thank you for the reply.

I have only used horizon to horizon motors so far, setting them up with USALS then transferring the positions to Diseqc 1.2 one by one.

I also have a webcam looking at the scale on the motor which is handy as you can see what is going on : )

It may be possible to work something similar by marking a scale on the jack arm ?

On your system do the jacks return the dish to the correct position every time ?

I think that is about it : )

Thank you again for your time, looking forward to an installation that does not require constant attention.

Kind Regards Allen

Hi Allen,

No problem with the Jack returning to its position now I'm using a Venture actuator.
Setting up the V Box is essentially the same as setting up Diseqc one. I have never used USALS so can't comment on that setup.

Any Ka band set up will need all bearings and the actuator worm drve to be in first class condition. If you can take some further images of the dish that you already use (from front and rear) those here could point out what should be replaced and what can be reclaim when transferring parts over.

Hallo Channel Hopper,

I am going to install a system that uses an actuator rather than a horizon to horizon motor.

Also a different dish possibly a channel master rather than the Aluminium Primsat dish I am using.

So nothing will be used from the old system except the coaxial cable : )

I do get mixed up with the names of the motor drive types.

I have the type at the moment with the Elephant trunk that uses the low volts that switches the polarization to drive the motor.

I think of this as being called a horizon to horizon motor ?

I intend to install the system that uses I think Jacks or actuators that require 32 volts and an extra four wire cable.

An extra motor to track inclined orbit is also required plus I beleive it is called a skew motor to turn the LNB ?

Kind Regards Allen and Alanna

What inclined satellites are you after? Or do what that adjustment also?

The motor I think you mean is a
diseqc 1.2 or usals.

Just for your reference the actuator is 36v

But are you receiving Ka band signals ?

Good Morning Thank you for your message.

Just briefly as we are installing a new roof today and at last the weather looks good : )

No specific satellite, I wish to have full control of the vertical as well as horizontal positions of the dish so that I can peak it for maximum signal on any satellite.

Then progress to satellites that have run low on gas and have drifted.

I receive KU band only at the moment.

I had not heard of KA but have just looked it up online.

The reason people are asking is because it's in the ka band section, and not the ku band section.

Sorry I do not understand that what is in the KA band section ?
