Help Required Raven 1.8m with polar mount to recommend? Someone experience?

The dish weighs 37kg - weighed it myself. The plastic feed holder is indeed rubbish but it's possible to get a metal one specifically for the feed rather than the LNB.
 
I am the opinion ... original feedhalter is the best. Even if from plastic. Is the plastic holder wobbly ... or just not so robust? I would still lie down a reserve because of possible uv crumbling.

Do you have a link to a suitable alternative metal holder? I myself have mirror (kathrein) operated with alternative brackets. That was nothing.

Since I have with my prodelin everything original (bracket, feedhorn etc.), the reception is much better.
 
Original plastic holder is quiet strong and holds LNB in well, but it does not allow to adjust LNB properly. Unfortunately, this is an issue for CM dishes, it is my personal opinion. I prefer LNB holders made of INOX, something like this IMG_20151018_123720 (Custom).webp
Since I have with my prodelin everything original (bracket, feedhorn etc.), the reception is much better.

No rima, I do not want an own building. Only so much: an original feedhorn tuned to the antenna surpasses your universal clearly in the reception.

The experience has already made others.
 
I have the original Channel master dish face, but it is identical to the raven mirror. yes the LNB holder is plastic, but I think a guy in Riga on E Bay sells a pattern metal holder

I don't know of the Echostar version of the Prodelin dish, but would guess it is similar in performance to the 1183 series (single piece , o.6 f/d)
Question was about how much better Prodelin dish (basically, any dish) performs better when it equipped with original bracket, feedhorn etc.

Yes scopus ... you have an original channelmaster antenna / reflector ... but I thought ... a Raven SSS polar mount and also the Raven SSS plastic holder?

Or did CM / Andrew already have these plastic brackets? I do not know that. Had no CM / Andrew / Raven.

I just looked up ... andrew actually had already 2005 the same plastic brackets. If they were so bad why they were not exchanged then ...
 
I think all the dishes are supplied with the plastic holder. Perhaps Captain Jack can answer who, and where his metal holder was made.
 
I have one unopened pack of CM plastic LNB holder IMG_20161106_213204 (Custom).webp (well, had till couple of minutes ago, but then I opened it to take some pictures). Instructions says that it is for small antennas, but I think 1,8m antenna has exactly the same holder.

Yes rima could be the same. But if it has been so long they can not be so miserable. Then they would have exchanged from manufacturer side.

What is to happen? Do not screw them tight. Slipping? Twisting?
 
Main problems with those holders are:
- the 2 M6 screws, which connect upper part to the lower part are rusting together in the nuts in the lower part of the holder. After some years of usage, when you try to unscrew the screws they come out together with nuts. Perhaps it is better to use INOX screws instead of original ones and apply some grease;
- secondly, place where side-arms connected to the holder, sometimes plastic can crack. To prevent cracking wider washers should be used.
- thirdly, and main problem with those holders (and this is my personal opinion) is that they do not hold LNB in the proper place and do not point LNB to the right place on the surface of the dish, means that LNB is always in offset position, and that is not good if you try to get maximum possible performance of your sat-system.
 
Rima ... points 1 and 2 can be fixed with inox screws and washers. Point 3 I could not translate correctly. The LNB twists with time because it is not tight enough. Do you mean that?

Man could turn the complete bracket by a spin. Made of metal. If this is necessary at all.
 
Point #3: In simple words, original LNB holder does not hold LNB in antenna's focus. Means, SAT-system will not perform as it could.
 
The metal holder is included with older Tooway systems, which have a 1m Channel Master dish with a large OMT for transmitting and receiving lnbs. Too much weight for a plastic holder.

So you have a 1.8m SSS raven? The profile is still channelmaster.
As CJ points out, it is the same dish, made under different brand names.
The company that makes the dish have changed names several times.
First Channel Master, then Andrew, then ASC, then Raven, and now Skyware.
The dish is the same, the mold is the same.
Some guys from Skyware told me that there only ever was one mold for the 1.8.
It is the same that is still used in production.

As also stated, the polar mount for the dish was only manufactured long time ago.
It seems to me that it was only made under the Channel Master name.
Same for the polar mount for 1.2/1.0 metres - only existed under the Channel Master brand.

And as can be seen elsewhere on this site, the CM polar mount for the offset dish is clearly an adaptation of the CM polar mount for their prime focus dishes.
The offset declination (about 23 degrees) is established through an extension to the top bracket.
This clearly looks like an add-on to an original design.
Even the steel ring attaching to the back of the dish gives the origin away.
As the reflector is in one self-supporting piece, there is no reason to have a steel ring.
A simple "H"-structure made from angular iron should be, and is, enough.
As can be seen for the normal Az/El mount that comes with the dish, even today.

My belief: The original polar mount is not particularly "spitzen-klasse".
It was probably made for the same market that received C-band and early Ku-band transmission in the US and Europe.
And therefore made to be cheap, but still working.
Your Prodelin 1.8 with polar mount is probably from around the same time.
In the years after this, fast development and deployment of stronger satellites meant that dish sizes got smaller (1.2m, 1.0m).
No market for a polar mounted 1.8 meter.
End of product.
And once digital arrived, even polar mounts fell out of the mass-market.
Only us enthusiasts left wanting to buy.

Which leaves us today with niche-market manufacturers like Satellite Super-Store.
Now, I don't have one, but I think it will deliver more than the original Channel Master mount did.
(It also costs a bit more.)
The SSS mount has the weight of the dish closer to the polar axis, meaning less power required to turn the dish.
The polar axis is also quite long, meaning less stress on the bearings.
(different from the Purplesat one - I don't know if it really makes a difference.)

So, if professional mounts are not an option, then either PS or SSS are what you can have.
Or you would make it yourself, or get someone to do it from drawings.
But unless you are good at welding, and "metal-basteln" in general, you probably will be more happy with the SSS or PS mounts.
 
St1 ... you have certainly in almost all right. Prodelin still has all spare parts in stock ... but all produced long ago.

The antenna reflectors are identical, was clear. The polarmounts are different. Share the pictures. Purplesat offers 3 different polarmounts and none is certainly identical to the primesat-SSS-polarmount.

If English would be my mother tongue ... I would call at purplesat and let me explain. But not like that.

A bit disappointing I find the plastic brackets generally with CM. But since they have been on the market for so long ... they will work. Contrary to what rima says. I know someone with a 120er Andrew ... because I look at the occasion occasionally the bracket.

With prodelin, there are no plastic brackets.
