Thank you for your reply.I have EBS Pro .That works fine.
I did not realise that EBScan did not work properly with the TBS6983.

I'm concerned about running 'make install' as root. 'make --dry-run install' shows the script would end up removing/overwriting a large number of existing .ko files that are part of the base system.
...
I had hoped just a few modules/drivers would need to be installed o_O
Quick update; I wrote a script to work out where new modules would overwrite existing system files - then skip the installation of those. But, it looks like the kernel doesn't like it when you mix and match drivers from different sources...
In the end I just let the TBS install script do its thing.

The card is now recognised fine and VLC plays SD/HD channels without a problem.

The only difficulty was trying to understand the command-line tools that generate the channel lists. Some of them were out of date and didn't work with DVB-S2 transponders. In the end I downloaded the latest version of w_scan which can output a VLC formatted playlist in XML.

I just installed a TBS6983 in my Win7 system; no problem using TBSRecorder, ProgDVB and CrazyScan. I can receive almost all transponders from 5.0W including ACM/VCM/Multistream ones. However, I cannot lock 12648V at all in CrazyScan. I am getting a nice symmetrical 8PSK pattern, but it won't lock using PLS code Gold/121212. Has the PLS code changed recently?

Just checked and no problem with the usual code

This is what I get with my rather miniscule Selfsat H30. This is all new to me, but I suppose that the Signal/Noise ratio must reach a certain threshold before the transponder locks?

Yes, your signal is too weak, you need at least 11dB but more for a good picture

example: with 11dB, the BER is good enough for a lock but not for good quality pictures.

@ 10dB the signal is lost

Because of the high FEC (8/9) on 12648V you do need a larger dish. I use an 80cm dish here (South West Midlands) and that seems fine for me. I now use this transponder as my main feed for TF1, France 2 and M6 in HD as well as the 6 extra French HD channels in my media centre set-up.

I can get a lock on the transponder on a 60cm dish but there is a fair amount of breakup. My card is the TBS 6905.

Your signal just looks fine but you have set PLS to Gold 121212

Thanks for your comments! Since I really like the small footprint of the SelfSat H30D2, I'm considering the H50D2 (~80 cm equivalent in a 52x51 cm2 unit), which increases the gain to 36.1 dB from 33.7 dB @12.7 GHz. Would that be adequate to receive the elusive 12648V transponder from 5.0W?

Hi,

Can anyone please tell me which tuner on the TBS6983 card is the one that was problematic with CrazyScan?

On the card bracket the tuners are labelled LNB 0 and LNB 1
When I detect the card in software such as EBS Pro it sees them as Tuner A and Tuner B

Am I correct in assuming LNB 0 = Tuner A and that LNB 1 = Tuner B ?
It may seem obvious that the above is the correct referencing but with these Chinese cards it is not a given?

Rgds

How's reliability on 6983? Any failed tuners like with 6925 or are they still too new to judge?

My old 6925 let me down, but I was able to get a replacement, but as the 6925, was out of stock I was given the 6983, and imho it's far better for its reliability, but the internal power plug really helps.

It was found that TBS6983 card was incompatible with some pc motherboards. That's the main reason why it was changed with TBS6903 card.In terms of hardware the last card has the same performance as 6983 card.
