Sorry, it was late last night when I posted the above and mentioned the wrong IEC standard - should have been 60479
And see this exhibit at the Science Museum - I helped them very substantially redesign (especially the shock-producing circuitry, and the resulting electric shock current path!) and install it after the prototype initial one was deemed "too dangerous" by the project staff. Been running fine since about 2005, and, AFAIK, no-one has ever been mildly hurt! In fact, when it was first up and running, I was told by the staff that kids would often spend quite a few minutes playing with it because every time they put their fingers into the metal grid (the shock is only experienced between the centre core and the outer metal bars of that, and so it is confined to the fingers of the hand, not through the rest of the body) there was/is a loud "bang" from the associated audio system!
