You lot lose me with old money. Well before my time.

I have seen some, as when my grandfather died gran started to clean some of his things.

She found a shoe box full of old money, she didn't even know he had.

Then she found some more shoe boxes with pound notes in it.

It's the groats you really need to look out for. Often found lurking in a discarded codpiece.

And don't forget the unused course of Leeches in a leather pouch at the back of the Bathroom cabinet.

Crikey, she'd been long gone by the time that was taken...However, here's a picture of the Rovers Return triumvirate...Minnie Caldwell, Ena Sharples and the one I couldn't remember, Martha Longhurst.

What colour was the beret ?

Blue of course, she was very obviously a member of a UN Peace keeping force..

BTW. £3 9s 9d was my weekly wage at 16. When I turned 17 it shot up to £4 1s 6d...

I got £1050/year = approx. £80-odd/month or £40-ish/week (just over a £ an hour)when I started "real work" in 1969 - lucky me:) - but, after that, it was a long slog until I got anything like a reasonable wage/salary :(

Attempting to play golf again tomorrow, as I like hand rolling tobacco, rather than ready made cigs, I decided to make some up tonight and put in my tin for tomorrow.
Figured one for each hole, and one for each ball I am bound to lose.
Have made 27 cigs, should be enough ?
( Playing 9 holes on an all par 3 course! )

Dunno, I quit 11 years ago after having smoked a pack a day for 20.
Reckon that's about 120 grand worth of not smoking...

...which I now, however, spend on Lodi and Rhône wines and really good steaks instead! :)

(Granted, the steaks are a bit more problematic to enjoy between to holes on the course...)

@st1

If smoking does not kill you then a lot of other things (probably the wine or the cholesterol from other things - I should know that - although I still smoke too !) probably will :)

Beginning a TV service engineer apprenticeship in the mid 1960's, I came across many of these. We used to 'refurb' them and they were marketed as rental TV's for OAP's (at something like 5/- a week). I can vouch for the fact the larger ones were heavy, though mainly for this particular rental market we sold 17" screens.

This was obviously before decimalisation and my first pay packet was £3 9s 9d.....

My first decent EHT shock came off a Bermuda Ultra.

I went back for more in the next few years...........

FWIW, CRT HV is high (20-30 kv) voltage and might hurt you, but very low current (<<1mA), "probably" will not - search electrostatic shock or ("within reason") "electric fence controller voltage" (was the Secretary for the BSI standards committee for those in the early 1990s - Search IEC 60529 for more info!)

My worst experience was from a dielectric strength tester ("flash"/"hipot"/"PAT" tester) at one company I worked for (and I was to blame - I modded it to bypass the safety features!) when I got a real belt - only 1500V AC but with a 5mA current limit then that really hurt!

"Low" Voltage can hurt - but "high" current kills!
