you really need to make offer on ebay - he might not check here often

It was only a throw away offer of £200 delivered for the dish to call his bluff about scrapping it and to save it in the event he really would destroy it.
If he had accepted, I would have gone ahead but in reality it was unlikely my offer would be taken up.

I got the "special discount of £420" sent via the eBay messaging system but did not reply to it.
The dish was originally listed at £390 with "Make an Offer" at that price. To me, that indicates £300 to £350 collected would probably have bought the dish at that time.

Seller comes along, reads the positive comments on this forum and decides to jack shaft the price up to £490.
Dish unsold, seller sending discount messages to all eBay watchers, whole thing is a farce that has backfired on the seller.
If it had been left at £390 with Make an Offer, chances are it would have sold and be gone by now?

Has Ebay added VAT? 490 + 20% = 588
That makes sense. Maybe a ebay setting ....or the way the guy has listed it for EU countries etc. Even I get confused with shipping options when listing items

Seller here, I know you boys are interested in the outcome so thought I would let you know the score. The dish has indeed sold on ebay for slightly less than the 490 but the buyer did not want any of the TV related stuff as it will to be returned to its original role as a microwave point to point comms dish. He is delighted with his good fortune at picking up the dish at less than the cost of carriage of an alternative, inferior, new dish.

I said I would share with you the source of the dish when I picked it up in 1999. Well we were collecting eggs from a farm 10 miles away and spotted a tripod (lnb arms) sticking out of the ground with ducks paddling around a little pond beneath it. I had a look and expected the dish to be full of dents and holes but it was perfect. At that time I was using a 1.2 Channel Master.

The farmer, Peter (not Toby) was happy to see it gone so I fetched the trailer and some 4x2 and made a cradle. Precision were still going then and were very helpful with dating the thing and also confirming my calcs on focal length etc were correct. First 15 years was spent on C band then C/Ku with a co-rotor. As the advert said it always seemed to outperform its size and its a shame that its now lost to the sat TV community.

Thanks for your interest.

You mentioned "the buyer did not want any of the TV related stuff" So did the LNB and Feed etc go with the dish or do you still have them?

Update for you. Well the original eBay buyer never got round to collecting the dish, rather a long haul from Portsmouth to Derbyshire so the sale 'Auto closed - auto relisted' after 4 weeks. I immediately got a new offer but before I could reply they bought it anyway at full price. A cockney with a van has just collected it and its now on its way back to the smoke, all within 2 days. Its been bought by Marvel films (or their film maker) and is being used in a military scene in Venom 3 with Tom Hardy. Out next November apparently. Cheaper to buy this, collect it and then scrap it than making a plywood mock up or commissioning CGI. It seems as soon as a scene is in the can a specialist 'clearance' contractor moves in and takes everything away so it will no doubt go for scrap.
