ok here is the information again.
#208 upper right corner 12-01 2009 is what is written.
the one before this was #207 10-11-2008
mr alexander wiese wrote the artical.
they quote echostar/rainbow and amazonas that are all at the same point
at 61.5 west.
he says the man is receiving dish network promo channel on 12.456 ghz.
then he mentions that mr diego rosende receivs 12.456 ghz
12.486 ghz,12.515 ghz,12.546ghz.
this magazine comes out every 2 months so i just got this 3 days ago in the mail. and being the italian mail is slow it took 5 days to reach here from germany.:);)
i will scan the front cover and artical and you can see for your self.
i will post it here and you can read it.
probally this magazine has not reached you yet.
stay tuned and i will post it.
ralph:confused

Please do, thank you.:)

I think that if the footprint really expands geometrically, then Scotland, Faroe Islands and Western Norway(probably northern parts), certainly have the best chances of receiving Dish Network, even better than Canaries!!!

Hi Ralph:)

Thank you for the scans. 61.5w is very low on the horizon in Naples, ONLY JUST, so you would need to have a very deep prime focus dish, high on the hillside overlooking the sea to the west. And additionally, probably twice the dish size needed for example in Monaco or Barcelona; to counteract the low elevation problems. All that provided of course that echostar 3 @ 61.5w is receiveable in continental Europe.:confused

There is a mistake in the article. It says; "His best reception is on the vertical beam in the high band", but there are no verticals on echostar 3:eek: only circulars: left and right.
Maybe a 120 cm dish with a circular lnbf is enough on Tenerife:)

hi,
i am right at the sea side and have dishes on top of hotel 45 meters up.
we have no blockage in that direction and no smog at all.
a direct shot in that direction.
he was using a direct tv lnb that has a different lo.
europe uses 9.750 low and 10.6 ghz high.
usa uses 10.750 ghz and 11.250 or something like that high .
we will have to do the math i have a small dish net lnb here and i will have to retro fit it on a biger dish and see whats up.
weather was bad yesterday here .
by the way bbc hd started transmission on the 1 degree west.
the progrtaming is not the same as bbc 1 or 2.

have a good day to all

does anyone have the different local oscillator fq, so we can recalc for a normal one (and using L/R polarisation !) gonna try and fiddle with a teflon plate in an old universal Ku-lnb for that :) (teflon dielectricum at 45° like the ones used in a C=band but then somewhat smaller)
Any other things i have to watch for ? (like a strange skew etc)

hi
on the spectrun it shows symbol rate of 20,000 kmbs or 20 mbits/s and
10.750 ghz low and 11.250 ghz high.
at a level of 64 dbuv it should be enough for any mpeg 4 receiver to lock on something in the clear.
if they are using a circular pol. there should be a dielectric fin inside the
dish network lnb that favors right hand or left hand pol.

Hi,:)

Conus beam in New England is 53 dbW according to Lyngsat. How do you mean, you can't get it?

Is DISH Network info card on 12.414 L broadcast in FTA DVB (mpeg 4 fta)? (same as European FTA norm (mpeg 4 fta?)

what the fuss is all about

All 4 major US networks plus the CW are on Rainbow 1's spotbeams; spot 2,3,4,11- Has anyone ever seen any published or hobbyist printed footprint maps for the Rainbow 1 satellite's various spots?

lyngsat neglects to mention spot beams used by dish network,so not actually COntinentalUnitedStates.
tp's I just scanned:
12326,12355,12384,12414,12472,12603,12632,12661
all others are zero signal quality since they are spot beamed to a different part of the country or HD mpeg4.
My receiver is mpeg2.

Rainbow 1 was sold to Echostar in 2006, now have the name of Echostar 12..more info on

_http://space.skyrocket.de/index_frame.htm?http://www.skyrocket.de/space/doc_sdat/rainbow-1.htm

In _http://www.satbeams.com/footprints?beam=5161 you can find different footprints for 61.5W position, R1 is Echostar 12

found the dish network dish and lnb.
it was in storage
have the original dish as well.
its about 2 feet or about 60 cm in diamater.
i wonder what size dish in this area.
some of the frequencies mentioned above some are right hand and some left pol.
all channels are mpeg4 so a mpeg 4 receiver should pick up just the free promo channels
the weather here has been bad and raining.
hope someone in europe can pick this up.
normal european lnb will not work.:)
it must have the teflon dielectric plate in the mouth of the lnb to favor circular pol.
and the L.O is different on the american lnb that the ones in europe.

@ralphmagno

I think if you use a Linear LNB in a Circular Polarization, you will get signal but with loss of -3dB (50%)..this is according to Wireless communications, but since the LNB will receive both Left/right hand polarization i dont know if this apply´s to satellite TV.

If is possible to receive Cir Pol. using a Linear LNB, you will need to rescue the -3dB loss in dish size.. for every 6dB you double the diameter of the antenna, so the dish needs to be 50% larger for a Linear LNB.

but confirm first if it´s possible to use Linear LNB in Circular polarization first.:)

I wonder if there's any chance to get in contact with the guy in Tenerife or better if we will join here. I am curious if he can also see some frequencies from Brazil Beams which often look to spill over to Western Africa. Especially the analogue ones in PAL N on 70W in the C-Band would be of big interest. If he can see anything from these then it would be worth to test it from Portugal, Spain, Madeira and the Acores. For the Brazil Beams Cabo Verde should have more chances since they are much more South and West.

Azores have a American Air base..i think if it was possible to catch any North American satellite in Azores, they should know. I searched a while and the only information i got is about AFN channel in Lajes, they used a 1.5meter satellite, so they were using the Europe Hotbird beam.

In December i will spend a couple of weeks in Azores..i have a friend who owns a 1.8m prime focus dish, we can do some tests, but Azores in the winter is very cloudy/rainy and the lack of time can compromise. Anyway, 1.8m should be too short...
