The 11165 H signal is now gone completely here. You may have just caught the tail end of the test as they were winding down. It was easily the strongest signal I have seen at 28.2E (or anywhere else for that matter).

Are you sure 11165 H is a frequency in its own right? Was it there when there was no transmission on 11171 H? For me it seemed the same line up and very near 11171 H (just 6 digs) couldn't it be an overspill?

Unlikly to "wind down" more like it will be switched of suddenly. Astra 1N
transponders can be switched between beams so they could start off wide then
switch to spot beam.

we dont know that ... officially no. However we know
the satellite has a 1.3m steerable dish. SES do not confirm that, but you can
see it at Astriums homepage.

At 1.3M the steable will be wide beam. They will probable use it for internet
data so is most likely a red hearing.

It appeared sometime after 11171 H went off air and hung around for a couple of hours. Several forum members from all over Europe also got the signal.

Do we know the dish size for the UK spot beam?
There are two 2.6m, and one 1.8m as well on 1N if i remember correctly.

So it could as well have been 11171 H with changed parameters and the first one reporting it had it on that frequency in his box. My simple box would not be able to have a seperate frequency with same pol. just 6 digs away. It still gets the signal from 11171 H at 11165 H (I know because I had that (same bundle of progs) whilst 11171 H was on air and therefore deleted 11165 H. So no one hgad different streams at the same time on those two ... no need to reprogram it for the time being at least, I guess)

..it's plain old DVB-S and not DVB-S2, 8PSK ;)

11165H, 1000, 5/6

no content, only 0xFF which means null packets with transport_error_indicator and scrambling flag set.
Some cards won't show anything if packets with TEI=1 are blocked

Why, on this frequency, my ClarkeTech 5100 gives level 92% and quality 85% and my Vu+UNO gives srn 0 and agc 79%?

I was the first to report it on here and on DS. I found it using Easy Blindscan and it was definitely 11165 H, not 11171 H that was in use earlier. Obviously these 2 frequencies could not transmit at the same time. When 11171 H was in use it was a full TP test with actual TV channels and normal parameters but 11165 H was fired up with a very low S/R and no content after 11171 H went off air. As others have now reported the signal is back on 11165 with the same low S/R 1000. This is obviously just a test (possibly for beam fine tuning) and won't last with these parameters.

Why no hardware lock? What receiver/card are you using?

/edit
while I was writing the power of 11165H went down by 6dB

Power drop noticeable here also, just gone from 93% to 84% on my TM6800.

In both cases it's the same transponder. 11171 is MCPC using the entire bandwidth whereas 11165 is SCPC only using a small fraction of the transponder. Of course both modes can't coexist simultaneously on a transponder but there could more small band transmissions at the same time including 11171 and 11165 ;)

To verify and accurately determine the signal value I use TBS6925 card and CrazyScan software. This card knows to lock the signal even at 1 MHz step.

I am sure the transport stream 07ea on sky News sd on the Sky Hd box relates to a TID of 2026 using the hexadecimal converter. 2026 according to King of Sat is astra 1n

Thanks for correcting me, you're right I should have said "Obviously these 2 frequencies could not transmit at the same time with these parameters".:)
