demand for capacity is still growing, therefore the satellite operators need to open up new slots.
Spot beams aren't the only way forward though. The other is co-operation and this, rather than spot beams, promotes pan-continental transponders.

spots for the UK, Nigeria, Middle East & Russia, spread across the three new birds.
Still a good distance between those beams. I would say all are at least 5 degrees apart, so anyone within 1.5º of the UK beam (that includes most of western Europe) won't be affected.

Yes, but you can only co-operate so much. Here's the predicted 2E Mid East beam for example:

Not good if you are in Cyprus or some of those eastern European countries trying to pick up UK spots on similar frequencies...

No signal here, which doesnt surprise me as neither are valid frequencies for a full bandwidth SR22000 tp. A low SR transmission maybe.

Most likely be on EB1 frequencies, so it looks like everyone in Cyprus is going to miss out on their slapper-on-the-sofa viewing.

It was good while it lasted I guess!

Note I have added a slingbox HD to my setup, its better than having no UK TV! Im sure by the time my dishes are totally redundant for UK TV reception we will have at least 1080i over IP!

Where is the big satellite dish graveyard in Limassol, Cyprus:D

Well 11032 / 043 seem to be ghost frequencies - theres nothing on them at all here, they can be discounted unless we get more reports of them.

Try 10964H 22000 5/6 - thats another super high power frequency here.

Just so that I can take my valium in peace tonight and retire bedwards.....can any of these "tests" actually be captured on a SKY SD box such as the Pace through ADD CHANNELS, or do we have to wait until there actually IS something on the channel to see if we can receive anything?

Tried to scan 10964 H 22000 5/6 with my Sky HD box and it took a couple of minutes and eventually found nothing (understandable as there is no content yet). If you scan a frequency with no signal it reports nothing found after a few seconds. So if you try 10964 with your Sky box and it takes ages to report back then you are probably getting a signal, if it bombs out after a few seconds then you are getting no signal - worth a try anyway.

Edit: Better if you try 11053 H 22000 5/6 as 10964 is not locking at the moment.

Skyster: Is that an Agilent 8594 Analyser your using? I've got an 8590 I use for my broadcast work!

Nice to see some more illumination, things are finally starting to happen!!

I am getting no quality reading at this time of day anyway on the SKY Pace SD box (but can see BBC etc ok) so maybe that is the reason why I cannot pick up anything on 11053...

Absolutely 0 signal from mentioned H frequencies at my place. Colleagues from Silesian region ( 100 km westwards from Krakow) receive all of them with no problem.

It's possible the Add Channels feature on the HD box behaves differently. I had an old Pace box (1998 vintage) until a few weeks ago but got rid of it as it was gathering dust in a corner. Can you try your Freesat box in Non-Freesat mode to see if you are getting a signal ?
