Without an active Sky card (or FreesatFromSky card) theres not much you can do via satellite. The channels on the wide beams are all encrypted.

If you find yourself a UK based VPN (virtual private network) you can watch UK programming off the channel websites if you have broadband ;)

Oh I see, I know what you mean now.

But sadly I cant afford one of the slingbox, and have no friends west of me, the are east of me nearer kosice towards russia.

I was able to watch UK tv for a while via some servers in a large built up area via IP address of some sort. It opened in vlc media player form via the internert and was fast.

but now its been closed and doesnt work, i do however have slovak, czech, and russian tv in the same method, shame.

I have no idea how someone is doing it, if i had an email i could send it to you lol

a friend just told me to use expat-shield, to make the UK bbc and itv real players think im there.

thats good i watched x factor last night for the first time in years.

Find a UK vpn - about €5/month I think, and chose your programming via BBC iplayer, ITV player, & 4OD..

In that case you can use ADD CHANNELS (services 4 4) to put the encrypted ITV regions onto the box and view them via OTHER CHANNELS (services 6 on standard boxes, services 0 on sky+)

Cant get Astra 2D? Heres where to find the main psb channels

I followed your advice for the channels relevant to me.

Some worked, and other said on my tv "no signal, press back up"

Here are the ones that are now saved under "0ther channels" using the yellow butto to save them-

I'm afraid that the card you have is not the right one for your box, despite what you said above. It has been paired to another box and, if it is your own card, will need re-pairing with your current box.

If you have obtained card from elsewhere it is unlikely to work and, if you have paid for it, you should try to get your money back. What you need now is either a Freesat from $ly card (FFS) or a subscription to $ly which wil get the ITV1 regions above.

hi mate,

i have no idea, i bought this off a mate, a good mate, he has a new card with his new box, and left this one in as a bonus, he was gonna bin it, but i was advised as it was to be used abroad to have it incase.

i have no way to pair it to the box if this is needed, im gutted, didnt think this wud be so hard.

so it may be the card and not the satellite at all?

Not exactly.

You will need the card to view the ITV1 channels that are encrypted and broadcast on a strong satellite but it can't magic up channels that aren't there for because they're on a tightly focused satellite beam. All this is very likely to change (possibly for the good for you) as 1N takes up some of the transmitting duties from other satellites at 28E.

Either way, my advice is don't go spending any money on a card, larger dish or different receiver until 1N is in service properly and its broadcasting areas known.

i was informed that the 1N was put up with one reason being to enforce narrow or spot beam signals, thuse to make it harder for ex-pats and such like to be able to view.

any idea when 1N will update this coverage info then?

how can i register my card to that box from abroad, when im not even a sky customer?

That's basically correct but bear in mind it was originall intended for 19E. At present it's undergoing testing and seems to be giving a wider, stronger signal on its spot beam than anyone thought possible, probably because that's what it was supposed to do at 19E. Unless SES find some way of further restricting coverage you may find it better than the current situation. This is probably the reason for the delay in bringing 1N into full use.

The easiest way to get a card activated is for it to be done in the UK. If it's a true FFS card then once it's been activated it will work in ANY box and can be posted out to you. If it's a subscription card then it will probably only work in the original receiver. You can't do anything with the card you currently have except set regionality on your box and scrape ice off the windscreen of your car.

In the settings menu, the number on the card appears on the tv screen.

There are companies offering to do this but they tend to charge a lot. I'm not aware of any covering Slovakia or the Balkans in general I'm afraid.

Only that it hasn't been cancelled by $ly and, if it's not paired with your box, that doesn't really mean anything I'm afraid.

A Sky card only needs to be paired for premium channels like sport or movies. Most of the other channels will work in any box. If the Sky card is white and you are getting a "need pairing" error message it means the card hasn't been updated recently. Leave the card in the box on a scrambled channel like Channel 4 and leave it for a few days and it should come back to life.

My experience with expired white subscription cards is that they DON'T transfer over to work as an FFS card. I have about half a dozen expired subs cards, all of which give the "wrong card" message. It's possible they're all ex-premium cards but I wouldn't have thought it.

The person in the UK would need a $ly box of their own to activate the card in. After that they could send the card out to you. Current cost of a FFS card is about £25 I believe.

The details of your box are not needed unless your box is in the UK and doing the activating!

If your family friend previously had a subscription card in their box they would need to get this re-paired after activating your card.

But like I say, you might be wasting £25 if 1N gives you the channels you want.
