notice of astra 2e
Astra 2E - Ariane 5 ECA
The Russian launch manifest lists Astra 2E in 2013 on a Proton launcher:
second quarter – Astra 2E – Proton-M/Briz-M – Baikonur
Possibly, this mission switched the launch provider in exchange for Astra 2F, which was originally planned to ride a Proton, and is now one of the two payloads of the next Ariane 5 mission.

"Arianespace personnel detected a small snag in the upper part of the rocket. One gram of the launcher was unaccounted for, and they were ascertaining whether dust particles of that weight had got inside. "

The launch has been tentatively re-scheduled for September 28, 2012 - pending the completion of these additional verifications involving the Payload Fairing of the launcher. The 2,600-Kilogram Fairing of the Arianespace Launch Vehicle was built by RUAG Space. It is 10 meters in length and 5.4 meters in diameter and accommodates the dual payload of the launcher. According to unconfirmed source information, the additional work became necessary due to possible dust contamination of the fairing as a result of a faulty duct.

These Astra launches seem to be plagued with issues for SES. First we had issues with 1N's launch with a 5wk delay and so far 2F's had a two week delay from initial launch on the 14th, I guess better safe than sorry as you only get one chance.

No doubt we'll get an update next week if it's going ahead next Friday, SES will most likely have to put their 'in service' plans back by a week too, both for the French Astra2Connect service and for UK DTH migration from 1N.

Best a few weeks delay than two birds ends up scattered across the Atlantic in a million tiny pieces. The Russkies have recalled all the Breeze-M upper stages as a precaution after the recent failures. They will be stripped down & checked out prior to re-issue.

Good to see we're on for next Friday. I suspect SES will have to push forward the launch of 2F by a week or so unless it's going to be tested at 28.2E? My guess is that they will test at 31.5E.
