I don't understand why you keep bashing on about this. The West Africa beam is on Eutelsat's European frequency allocation. Also what beam is stronger in Tenerife has nothing to do with the distance, but the properties of each beam.

whats eutelsat got to do with it ???????????

im talking about the WEST AFRICA BEAM on ASTRA 2F
and im talking about the UK BEAM on ASTRA 2F
that if they REUSE FREQUENCIES then it makes sense they will use the two farthest apart beams ie west africa and the uk

which are 4500km apart

LONDON TENERIFE 3000KM (45 cm dish req)
SENEGAL TENERIFE 1500KM (60cm dish req )
less then
london madrid 1800km .....

and you are saying you would put you hand in your pocket for a 4.5m dish knowing that the beam HALF the distance from the one you want to pick up is using (or can use) the SAME FREQUENCIES

its MAD !!!!!!!! Mutual assured destruction ... NO ONE IN THE ISLAND IS GOING TO UPGRADE THE DISHS WITH THE POSSIBLY OF REUSE .....

If i am pointing at 28e and its the same freq for a english channel and a ghana channel then im going to get the english channel even if its TWICE the distance away ?????

ps the JPEG from SES says it is UK BEAM FOR ASTRA 2EFG ...so same beam on the three new satellites

Because for historical reasons Eutalsat has control of 12500-12750 for European transmissions, and that is the section of the band used by SES Astra for the West Africa beam.

Would you not buy a car because it might at some point in the future fail the MOT?

Also you keep stating linear distances to judge reception drop and this is not correct. You should be using degrees off axis. If you use degrees you will find Tenerife is 4.2º from the centre of the UK beam and 4.2º from the centre of the current West Africa beam. So since there is currently no frequency reuse, the question is how well do you receive the current West Africa beam (12543H & 12552V)?

At the moment - with multiple spot beams frequency re-use is very likely in the future which would also allow SES to increase the channels being offered to West Africa from 28E.

I thought 2E/F/G all had something like 57ku band transponders available. Obviously they won't all be in use individually on each craft at the same time as that's not possible!

Until they fill up Eutelsat's part of the band there is absolutely no point re-using their own frequencies. Also for frequency re-use on multiple spot beams across the entire band you need to look at the uplinking bandwidth available as there is no re-use of this.

1.im still confused who says SES can use the frequencies allocated to EUTELSAT at 28e (by a court to i believe)
have you any info on that point ....
2.who says anything about using frequencies across the ENTIRE band im talking about the ´´1D´´ bank being used at the same time
on UK and WEST AFRICA BEAM ...
3 ´´uplinking bandwidth available as there is no re-use of this´´ if this satellite allows frequencies reuse ,then that what it does .its written on the tin ......????

SES cant use the 11200-11700 / 12500-12750MHz frequencies transmitting into NW Europe.

This is part of her court decreed agreement from 20 odd years ago that divvied up the 28E slot for the UK..

SES can use this Eutelsat band to transmit to other areas - hence the Nigeria spot on 2B.

As an aside Astra 2E's Middle East beam is going to be interesting - as far as I can see they cant use the Eutelsat frequencies because the Eutelsat 28A coverage extends well into the desired target area, hence my expectation is that the UK spot frequencies will be reused here.

Astra 2E, 2F and 2G will each have 55 Ku-band transponders (130W )
12 for WESTAFRICA BEAM and 43 for UK/europe BEAM

Any idea of the EXACT ruling ???
well where i am sitting which is geographically AFRICA i can get EUTELSAT 28A 12523 V on a 80cm dish here and im 3500km from london...
so where are SES going to put their brand new flagship WEST AFRICA (not nigeria) service using ASTRA 2F Ku-Band: 12x 36 MHz transponders .muck around slipping them inbetween lots of old eutelsat trpx OR use that nice space BAND D no chance of causing a problem
as the UK BEAM is 4500km away ...all their new SAMSUNG LED tvs with BUILT IN SATELLITE BOXES wiill cover 10.7-12.75 ....i cant see em selling ASTRA 1D EXTENDERS up the ubango river...

No - although I vividly remember reading about it in our local newspaper. :D I was about 16 at the time, and the exact legal details wouldnt have been of much interest - even if they were published.

At the end of the day all we have to do is wait a few weeks and all will become clearer. :D

Cheers for that, I'd overlooked that when I read the spec! All this frequency reuse will be very interesting and as AS mentions, all should be revealed in the coming Months.

This might be why the European beams cut off quite fast to the east. Perhaps they intend to use some of the ME beams on the same frequencies as SES's European beams, this would avoid issues with Eutelsat.

80CM Dish Technosat receiver
My Location
Paderborn NRW Germany
Hi to all,I live in Germany near Paderborn, I purchased a sat system for the first time during the change from 2D to 1N. I carn't thank the members of this site enough for all the good/excellant information that I have gleamed over the past year or so regarding changes that have happened or are due to happen in particular 1N to 2F. I have now got the opertunity to upgrade my reciever from the current Technosat (purchased in Germany) to a Humax (purchased in the UK) I have a 80CM dish and have a fantastic reception, now for the question is it worth me swapping my system or is it a case of wait and see.The offer of the Humax is only open to me until the end of September?
