Not too bad here yet - gusty more than anything else. The 2 heavy dishes that poke up above the fence have been chained down around the back of the lnb arms just in case. The others will have to take their chances.

Numerous police forces now saying do not travel in southern & central Scotland.

We're at Orange alert here in the North East, the forecast looks a bit zesty... :confused

Currently the wind is hardly anything, they said on the news that it'll get worse later, but, we shall see, I think I'll go dig out my 12v lighting though anyway, just incase... :D

At work just now (Pacific Quay Glasgow, next to BBC Scotland) and the building is literally shaking with each gust of wind. I dread to think what state the dish will be in when I get home. My old dish and mount got mangled in the storms earlier this year but the replacement gear is a lot more sturdy. Not sure if it's up to this sort of punishment though.

165mph gusts??? That'd be a lot of energy generated with that brakeless turbine (if it was sat on the top of the cairngorms that is)...

The wind's picking up again here, this morning was pretty bad with rain that was blasted so hard it turned to mist, but the rest of the day was just clear & breezy, but I'm sure it's on it's way to blowing a hoolie again... :-hide

It's not the first time... :confused

Have they not heard of electric braking? Shorting out the generator which then creates eddy currents which brakes such things without friction, and then when it's at a safe speed the friction brakes come into play to aid slowing the thing down to a stop...

And of course, smart money goes onto blades that can be hydraulically adjusted so the wind passes over them and doesn't turn the blades, it's so simple... :-doh!
