You are right robbo, but the products on the ebay does not specify if they can be used for sky zone 2 dishes or not.
That is why I wanted good knowledge from the forum before I climb up the ladder.

The point is, there arent any multi lnb brackets for sky dishes, something always has to be cobbled together in some fashion.

A bit of wood and some gaffa tape, should be enough to try it out, given that you are not down south.

Also, better if you could get the dish down to have a play, rater than fiddling with it up a ladder.

Ok lads,

found this:

eBay Item # 300693322689

Is this is a uncommitted switch?

Anyway,
How different are the specifications of unswitched diseqec switch from the new diseqc switches?

You never know, Chinese can make mistakes in names. :)

Are you sure it's the Chinese?

What you have just written makes no sense. No such thing as unswitched diseqc switches? Or new ones?

:p

What do you mean?

I mean Diseqc 1.2, or 2.0 are newer than 1.1.

What I mean to ask, how different is 1.1 in specs from the newer ones?

Don't think of them as you would software, the versions allow for greater functionality, either in switching or motor control. Read through this :

Ok sounds good to me.

How will I configure my proposed set up in the receiver?

At the moment it is simple, as I have 28, and 5E sats. So port A is 28 and B is 5E.

Assuming that you connect as follows

5e--> port 2 of diseqc 1.1 switch
28e --> port 1 of diseqc1.0 switch
13e --> port 2 of diseqc 1.0 switch
o/p of diseqc1.0 switch--> port 1 of diseqc 1.1 switch.

Settings in receiver

5e, diseqc 1.1 port 2, diseqc 1.0 Off,
28e, diseqc 1.1 port 1, diseqc 1.0 port 1
13e, diseqc1.1 port 1, diseqc 1.0 port 2

Using letters A=1, B=2 etc

BTW, it is possible to cascade committed switches. If you have a 2 port switch port 1 connects for positions 1 & 3, and port 2 for positions 2 & 4. So if you had a 2 port switch in the house and a 4 port at each dish you could address ports 1 and 3 of the switch at dish one and ports 2 and 4 at the switch of dish two. It really depends on the receiver. For example a Dreambox can send DiSEqC repeats so would have no problem working in that configuration and some other receivers send repeats by default.

Ta,

But I have 2.0 switch as committed, and soon will order 1.1 switch as uncommitted switches. Will they work? As your example shows different types.

Good info huevos, must try that.

Did you read the info on Wikipedia yeshu? Some elements need clarification, but it does explain the difference between diseqc 1.x and 2.x, and that 2.x devices should be compatible with 1.x devices.

So yes, it should work, as diseqc 2.0 is essentially the same as diseqc 1.0 but with the addition of bi-directionality. Proof will be in the pudding of course, it has a chance of not working also, if the receiver sends the commands in the wrong order. Though I have tried it on a few different makes, and it has been ok.

sonnetpe, I lie your profile description about various redundant things. I am keen to have some of it (for money, if you like)

Does our website have a flea market section too? Or it is forbidden to trade second hand stuff here?

While it's true I list 'redundant' equipment I like to keep it in reserve. You can't tell when a receiver might decide to fail and once in a while I lend out a receiver to a friend (I did earlier this week actually). So, I haven't really any intention to sell off any equipment (I have just two old $ky dishes spare ATM) and in any case carrier costs from here would I think be too high (you do realise I live in France?).

Sounds good. But I am not so well versed with satellites, so can someone please explain this in simple language, perhaps with a diagram please.

Taking forward from Huevos idea.

Will I need identical switches to do this job? I mean the 2 port switches, do they have to be from the same manufacturer? same firmware, (does it apply to diseqc switches?).

Huevos, I see a little problem for my needs here.

My two dishes are very far from each other. So How would just one "four port switch" address to the mentioned problem?

The problem became little more complex now.

We are getting second receiver in other room. So what kind of disqec I will need to feed two receivers at the same time?
