Yes matey, managed to cobble that up for next to nowt as well ...
When i bought my Precision 2.2 mtr you had to have one of their mounting kits as part of the deal. The cheapest option was their "A" Frame which consisted of loads of thick walled box section / large angle iron sections and that black rear frame you can see on the 1.8CM. None of it never got used and was in the back of the garage for years and years. Surprisingly the rear frame was an exact fit on the CM and is built like a brick sh.. house and the rest of the Precision stuff went on to make the new mount for the 1.8. To be truthful , i don't think i would trust another H-H motor mount again on any decent sized dish .... these 36" & 24" actuators are far more substantial but dont look as neat lol. The only outlay was for some 25mm oilite bushes , A2 & A4 nuts and bolts etc and some 3.2mm welding rods :D

Nice work John cracking job :), ive encased my 1224 it wont be going anywhere, but I will still be using an actuator in the near future, I got six for next to nothing it would be rude not to use them:), once I am all rigged up as I want it you will have to pop over one day pal for a nosy and a cuppa :).

Cobbled this right hand side brace up out of scrap bits and bobs in the workshop ... cost me nowt to do.
Although when you get up close to the CM ribbing you tend to think "nah, this will never warp" .... but iv'e a feeling, now that iv'e done one side brace and the other to follow , that this will be a benefit to the dish.
It just takes that little bit of stress out of the area around the side arm fixing point.
This looks really, really good.
In fact, it looks very much what I would look for in a polar mount for the 1.8.
Sturdy stuff, and good point of balance, with room for actuators and what have you.
How much of this is standard precision mount and how much is own doing? From your post, I gather most is of own doing - e.g. other than the back frame, did you also use the swivel/hinge part from the precision dish?

.... just remembered something about the polar mount costs .... i had to buy a 36" actuator from one of our German outlet suppliers but the 24" was the incline jack on the previous 2.2 Precision, doh.

@ st1 , only the heavy duty back frame is original Precision frame. I just welded two top anchor points on it for the inclination jack for use on the 1.8 CM. The rest of the build is home brew, including the tilt down ground mount.

@ samoloko , I'm not sure if you know but this 1.8 CM build is the result of my beloved Precision 2.2 getting trashed in some severe gales we had 10 months or so ago. Iv'e dug a few pics up from the start of the build which shows a few things, hope it helps.
The build on the polar mount has been done with extra strengthening.... bolted as well as welded in places.

Oooh, yes, now that's what we (I) like.
Must say this is the stuff I dream about poppin' together in my garage (new shed, actually).
Very inspiring.
Thanks for sharing!

Nice work John :), did you not consider getting an Elite dish, I am seriously considering selling the 1.8 and going for a larger Elite dish.

Well ..... did cross my mind i must admit. My original planning permission is for a 2.2 but since building this new strengthened mount it has given me more confidence to go up a size or two :D:D:D

Mind you ... thinking back to when i purchased my 2.2, it was still "Precision Antennas" then and even though i was a business i still had to push them to get them to sell to me. It was like being in fantasy land when i picked it up .... surrounded by lovely Precision dishes of all sizes. Orgasmic .

Strangely Martin i was tempted 10 months ago to ring up Elite and explain my position with the trashed Precision and see what they had to say, chickened out though. Fancy giving them a ring ?. :D

Stop it Martin stop it!. It would be interesting to see how much a 2.2 would be these days and if possible to buy without the added "mount" hardware

Let me get this straight - your current mounting point and general installation was thrashed when you had a 2.2 mounted.
You're now down to a 1.8 plastic dish, expecting this to get less thrashed in the next global-warming-induced storm...
And you want to put something bigger aluminum-made up there?

...I can't wait to see the pictures of your next mount :-) :-)
