Hehe - they could have done with some more wind in Auckland - the top of the tower was hidden in the smoke from the fireworks.

Is it my imagination or was it a more low key display than last year?

Satellite: 88cms DiSEqC motorised dish (self-installed) covering 62E - 37.5W; Technomate TM6900HD Super Combo & TM5400 via IF loopthrough. Also fixed 70cms Raven dish (monoblock 13E / 19E) as backup.

Morning everybody, sorry I've rolled up a bit late. I left setting up my Chasing Midnight "receiving station" till the last minute ( = this morning!) I've been so busy!

I watched NZ on Euronews in the end, I can't lock APTN Charlie either. On my 88cms motorised dish, ECHO is strong (when N Korea was showing in recent days), and UP10Foxtrot is at breakup threshold with the APTN London MCR colourbars.

I had no problem with 10E last year so I would say the power was definitely down this time. The overcast weather here in West Sussex probably didn't help either!

If anybody is interested, I'm using the Technomate TM-6900 HD Super Combo with the 88cms dish (53E - 37.5W), a fixed 70cms eliptical dish with monoblock for 19E / 13E with a Technomate TM-5400 CI+, and a Labgear "£60 cheapo kit from screwfix last month" connected to an old Sky dish for 28E.

All receivers have USB sticks in them for recording video. The TM-5400 has some naughty third party software on it which allegedly makes TV Globo (13E) and the state broadcasters for Norway, Denmark and Sweden (4.8E) visible. Purely for chasing midnight purposes you understand. And yes, hand on heart, that's actually true! :-)

I'll do some screen grabs and add them to a publicly-viewable photo album on FB tomorrow.
Have fun chasing midnight, good luck, best wishes to everyone, and many thanks for all the info that will appear on here today!

Scholl!
Ed.

Definitely low key, I expect Sydney may not be as spectacular as in the past.

Russia may be reduced to sparklers and vodka. :(

Analoguesat - Yes I would say it was more low-key. They said on Sky News that the weather there was bad, and so bad it had lead to the cancellation of firework displays in other NZ cities.

Weather was fine in Auckland, it is the lack of money.

Dubai is planning on an HD feed again this year, but I can't find its frequency details so will keep an eye out, last year I think it was on 10e.

Don't forget to stop the records on the USB sticks Ed, they quickly fill up with raw transport streams.

Looking forward to your photos tomorrow mate.

Just encase it's missed this years spreadsheet I've made up

Yes the Dubai feed was indeed somewhere on 10E last year - somewhere between about 11.000 and 11.100 IIRC, down the vertical side.

Peter Gabriel has just done a fabulous version of "Don't give up" on 3Sat with a singer I don't recognise. Don't forget "Pop around the clock" on 3Sat (19E) if you're a music fan!

Lastly, according to an infocard on the Reuters World News Service feed on 22W, it seems like they are going to be showing lots of midnights there. I think the 88cms dish might stay there for most of the day actually!

If I'd known that 30 minutes ago I wouldn't have wasted time on 10E! It's nice to see WNS FTA at the moment; I'm sure it's usually encrypted. Has it been FTA for long, and does anybody know if this is a temporary or permanent thing?

I hope CM is going well for everybody so far :-)

Big Ed Reuters Live Service has been in the clear sine at-least the summer.

Here is Reuters planned coverage in an easier to read format than their site.

Ha ha I love it - Reuters WNS has been in the clear at 22 West since the summer... and I've only just noticed! That shows how often I have a scan over that particular satellite, doesn't it!

Is there ever anything on NSS-7 worth watching, apart from wrestling, the Reuters WNS feed, and a few locked-off shots off an American beach somewhere? :D
