Free way for anyone to upgrade to win 10?

There's a story in Daily Mail about someone who upgraded then found the next day that his mature content stash had been converted to slide show which was running as a screensaver.

The over seventies tee dance as a slide show, how embarrassing is that!

That's the whole story behind being free, they'll get income from selling, disclosing and (mis)using the vast amout of personal details and details that w10 is set up to gather and transfer. Also, MS is reading content of all emails if using any MS mail. Ways around it and stuff can be disabled, but the average user will know nothing and just follow the flow. Goggle and Apple does it, now Microsoft is joining the datagang full time.

Things have evolved and MS has specialized. 8(& .1) is os with some telemetry added., 10 is telemetry with some os added ;O)

From MS user agreement (which probably 99% wont spend any time reading or thinking about), quote:

"We will access, disclose and preserve personal data, including your content (such as the content of your emails, other private communications or files in private folders"

And upon 'up'grade they set 'Edge' as default, with no clear options or instructions on how to keep your favorite browser, not user friendly but understandable, as Edge is probably much better at channeling personal info to MS.

Basically, IMO, MS got zero respect for anything or anyone, and deserve zero respect in return.

My Toshiba laptop (returned by a customer as they could not get on with Win 8.1) flagged up the invitation to upgrade late last night.

Ive bought a new laptop today just downloading the OS now, its taking forever to download, time to have fibre installed

Upgraded my main PC last night, have a few issues, mainly with the browser playing videos, it locks up the computer, have updated the video card driver manually and it has slightly improved, but still happens. The upgrade also misplaced most of my documents and three quarters of my iplayer CD rips, but I have managed to locate them since, would recommend loading everything onto a USB stick before upgrade.

The laptop ive bought is brand new and quite powerful, I will check for the problems mentioned with video once its setup.

I immediately put Classic Shell on my HP Laptop W8 OS when I bought it.

Can't see any point upgrading to W10 if I have to do the same (which I certainly would do).

Well ..
fwiw this is my first post to our forum using my free win10 upgrade ..
..and no I wasn't stupid enough to upgrade my win7 ...
Just built a fresh win7 OS on a clean drive and upgraded that ..
I wanted to see what all the fuss was about without losing or compromising anything ..
The win10 OS is on a pull out 5.25 caddy ..so will let it finish upgrading and updating then pull it and revert to win7 tomorrow.
takes a bit of getting used to ...and the constant 3 descending tone is starting to grate ..
presumably either updating or an alert ..but not found the source of the tone as yet.

No idea wtf win 10 is trying to notify me about ...but short of turning off the speakers I cant shut this ffing 3 tone annoyance up ..
I can see no errors but it wont shut up..
yeah I can see me sticking with this ..

I habitually have sound turned off on all my machines to avoid all such annoyances.
