Hi All,

Going to put up a motorised system, not really sure what to buy and seems a bit of a minefield out there!
I'm no stranger to satellite, I've had lots of systems since the 1980s, my first dish had a horn type magnetic polarizer(Remember those?)
I used to lean out the window to physically move the dish to get different satellites.

I've never had a motorised setup and quite fancy one, It's going to be more of a hobby than actually watching the content.
Looking for advice on the following 3 items please.

Receiver: Whatever is current and is good at feed hunting with a decent Blind Scan!
Dish: up to 1m, Triax TD88 I was thinking of but open to suggestions.
Motor: To move above dish, TM 2600 or Dark Motor? No idea what to buy.

I'm very well versed with E2 boxes and have repaired/modified a lot over the years, but will probably get something else as the main rx for feed hunting.

Location is South Wales UK, pretty good sweep of the arc from my location.

My Satellite Setup
Laminas 1.2M fibre dish with an IBU, on a Clarke Tech USALS motor, covering 57E - 24.5W to an Octagon SX88. Displayed on a 20" Dyon LED TV.

Seperate 80 cm dish on 28E with a Humax Freesat for SWMBO.
Free Sat V8 meter. Sony Bravia 46" LCD, Sony BluRay and Home Cinema.

Personally, I'd avoid the TD88 because of it's elevation adjustment. Up to 1m, I'd recommend a Gibertini, however if you're putting it on a motor go for something in fibre if you can. I've had no problems with my Clarke Tech motor but I don't think there's much difference between them.

You could always try a Fracarro Penta 85 Aluminium, an excellent dish, lightweight and punches above its weight. Motor wise, they're all pretty good, I install the Technomate fairly regularly and don't get called back with problems. (touching wood) :)

Just google penta85motorised

Hello, WELCOME! :Y

Unfortunately still nothing better for feedhunting than some receiver with STiH237.

http://www.st.com/content/ccc/resou...df/jcr:content/translations/en.DM00049410.pdf

OPENBOX SX6 HD

Most sensitive tuner, strong, fast, reliable, great results with found lower SR than 500, lnb loopthrough, possibility to watch on PC or smartphone, but poor with details about channels, can not know is it in DVB-S, DVB-S2, is in QPSK, 8PSK, or 16APSK.

TBS6903 Professional DVB-S2 Dual Tuner PCIe Card

Successor for TBS 6983, great, definitelly best in combination with Crazyscan and EBS Pro.

About moving motor/dish, still I have not found some reliable. My dishes are not visible from my home and none of the digital receivers I can not trust, still using analogue receiver for that. Reccomendations welcome!

Motor? Most reliable but also so slow is still some from Stab, but good and fast is something from Powertech, for example DiSEqC Motor DG-380 - Powertech Electronics Inc. , with must have metallic gear.

Cheers for the replies!

Lot of stuff to look at there, I did consider the Penta 85 a few years back but I could not figure out of it was any good, some loved it and some hated it, it's actually a popular dish on new builds around here, seen quite a few with Quads on them.

So the TM boxes are not the go to any more for blind scanning?

I made a bit of a mistake recently, I built a new PC which is a i7 8700K, but I went for a ITX Build this time and as such I have no PCI slots, so I can't put a card in my main pc, though I could get an external thunderbolt enclosure or build another PC just for sat stuff. After 25+ years of having full/mid size towers I decided to go small!

What is the difference between the TBS6903 and TBS6902?

The best dish for feed hunting is the Gibertini OP 100cm + Inverto Black Ultra 0.2 Lnb,
The best receiver for feed hunting is the TM6902HD no longer in production though,
So of the current new batch of receivers the Octagon SX88 is probably the best that I have tested the Blind Scan has no selection for the active part of the Ku band it just scans 10.7 to 12.75 H & V this is slower than scanning 10950 to 11200 on 10 east with the TM.

So the best current production receiver would be the SX88?, I'll have a look for one.

Do you know if anywhere in the UK sell Gibertini dishes?

^^^^ An updated SX88+ is due for release in February: Similar performance but with the addition of Dolby D+ Audio support, essential for some French Multistream Channels.

Also qv the Edision Primo IP S2, which is remarkably similar.

I got my Gibertini from HM Sat in Germany. They are listing an OP 100 SE for €99. I'm sure they deliver to the UK but obviously check the carriage costs.....Ah, just checked Amazon.uk and there's a 1M listed on there (L series).

Are the USB ones any good? I did see them on the TBS Site.

Didn't think to look on eBay for a dish!, assumed it would be cheap crap on there. Hisat looks good, I like the look of those OP dishes!

There are a lot of encrypted feeds, which can't be viewed. Also feeds in 4:2:2 which can't be viewed on the TV with any normal receiver. People stream them to their PC's and use VLC Player to watch them. The TBS cards can show them as well. I have the 5925 USB version, looped through from my Dr HD receiver. It needs a powerful PC and separate software. I use DVB Dream. This is a thread about the 5925, you could search for others about TBS products.

Advice Needed - TBS 5925

The next TV and satellite receiver I get will be 4K which is becoming more common. And a 4K monitor for the PC. I don't put any importance on Blind Scan because I don't have the time to blind scan multiple satellites. Feeds come and go in a short time, and you would have to scan about 10 satellites constantly to pick up new ones. I watch any that I find of interest from this site and others which report real time feeds. I appreciate the work put in by feed hunters and I do contribute whenever I can.
