It's Alive! What do I need to do now (to set up the dish?). Can anyone give me a 3 point plan? I have the Klona/ Doom guide but a very brief synopsis would be helpful.

:)

Would be interesting to know what you did to bring it to life.

With regard to setting up the motor, there are several threads explaining it in the Dish Setup section and anything relating to that is best posting there.

I waited for a full moon and a thunderstorm, attached some electrodes..

No, I got a null modem cable and used DreamUp with the "official" image.

Will read the idiot's guide tomorrow and start again.

;)

Full moon, works everytime :)

my first suggestion would be to save a channel listing using dreambox edit. for some reason most dreamboxes dont act right without a channel list?

use the sticky at the top of the Dreambox section and locate the settings file
or click here :)
http://www.satellites.co.uk/php-bin/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1330
send this to your dreambox, you can add, delete and move channels on your own at a later date... at least it gives you plenty to start with :)

as for tuning the satellites in, i not familier with the 500, does it have a gotoxx function?? im sure someone else can help who has a 500

Full-Mooning wasn't enough for me. I had to get fully naked and smear myself with goose fat and chicken blood.

You need to get a sat tuned in. To do this here is what i do. It works for the 7000 & 5620. So give it a try with the 500.

How reliable is the SNR on the motor config page? Don't seem to get more than 50%?
Will try to find my sat meter tomorrow.

And why when I switch the DB on does it always give a message "please wait while motor turns to 3.0E"? Bizarre!

It usually goes to the last sat before you switch off. As yours is not set up right it might turn anywhere. If I were you I usually look for 19.2e 1st and work off that then. You should be able to get a look a s*y minidish and see where its pointing to and move your dish slowly left of it.

Except it won't do anything from the motor config page except "drive to zero"- and even then it doesn't do that every time (maybe only after a reboot).
(When I start the DB it says "driving motor to 3.0E" but ends up pointing 70.0W?)

I have flashed with Gemini and copied over the files from John Gaydon's post (satellites.xml etc).

Surely on the motor config page, I untick GotoXX and goto next page. Select "drive to zero"- it does that (once). Now select any other satellite and it does nothing. Trying to drive it east or west manally using the arrow doesn't move it at all.

I have rebooted and no change.

What is going on?! Hellppppp :(

Just double checked:

1. Switch on- it drives to 70.0W (the stop).
2. Cannot make it move using any motor config setting (with or without gotXX).
3. Reboot. Message "please wait motor turning to 3.0E"- and it goes to 3.0E.
4. Go to Motor Config- cannot make it move to any other satellite, using gotoXX or choosing a satellite and changing the direction with the handset.

It is a clean flash using Gemini and loaded satellites.xml from the settings file attached by JG.

WTF? How can I set up a satellite channel or get the damn thing working? I have a printout of at least 4 "How-to's" and I can't get any of them to do anything (the Klona makes me laugh, it has a line "click here if you have set your dish up yet" and then continue with easy stuff- it's the "click here" stuff that is the killer! ;) )

Any takers or providers of enlightenment?

My suggestion (1) Load the official image. No need to load satellite.xml. (2) As I said before, take your motor down to the DB until it goes to the correct sat degree positions. It is much easier if the motor is on your desk, not up the roof !

Hi Again
I dont think i sent you on an .xml file. Just a how to. To get the motor moving east & west until you find a Satellite. Gemeni already comes loaded with sats. 6 of them I think. 28e,19e,13e,5e,1w,&30w so You dont have to load the rest. You will just have to get your motor working properly first. Make sure you have complex set on motor config. (many Satellites via rotor) Uncheck go to, and then try maually going to left and right. You said last night that a minidish was near you. Go for 28e then 1st and see where the motor settings are when you get it. You must have a motor problem instead of an image problem. So keep trying.

Do as PDC says take your motor down and connect it up to dreambox beside you. Making sure you can manually move it left and right before you put it back up.
