Well I received a reply from Humax as I went to the source
and you can read for your selfs what the reply was.

Thank You for tour email.

When you go through the initial setup with the Foxsat, it checks your post code against a database broadcast by freesat, to give you the correct UK regional variations. If the post code is shown as invalid the unit is not receiving the database, this may be due a problem with the LNB or dish alignment. You can search for the freesat home transponder manually on 11427 or 11428 horizontal. If you are not receiving anything on this transponder, you will not be able to verify your post code. You can check the footprint of the transponder at the following link: http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/eb1_fixed.html

So there you have it some people on the post were quite correct.

In Cyprus the dish is peaked for BBC and ITV and due to narrow
bandwidth some of Eurobird channals are not obtainable hence the
Humax can not lock on. So I suppose I will have to leave things as
they are, I have also found out from Humax that ITV HD is also transmitted on the same trasnponder as the post code list. )(-red

We have a house in Cyprus and I was planning to bring a Freesat PVR over when they become available; from what you've found out from Humax it sounds like I need to do the postcode setting in the UK before I bring it over.

I presume it's like Sky - only a few BBC channels work at all, BBC 1London is what I can get with my sky box. So if I use a London postcode, hopefully it will prefer that BBC 1.

Further to the postcode problem; apart from that how well does it work? Does the EPG work in Cyprus and how good is reception? Do you get HD BBC ok?

There are hundreds of post codes in the UK, to change region type in one of the following:
Region Postcode
Anglia NR1 3JG
Border CA1 3NT
Central B1 2JT
Channel JE1 3ZD
Granada M60 9EA
HTV Wales CF5 6XJ
London WC1X 8XZ
Meridian ME14 5NZ
HTV West BS4 3HG
Westcountry PL7 5BQ
Tyne Tees NE11 9SZ

Overseas Reception & Regional Settings
Outside the official Astra 2D footprint, reception of your default region may be difficult. Apart from some local variations, the BBC's and ITV1's programming is more or less identical.
All BBC and ITV regions are available on satellite, though quite a few are still missing at present from Freesat's EPG.
Some regions use horizontal and some vertical transponders. Signal strength from horizontal and vertical transponders varies considerably from country to country, so your default region may not give the best reception in your area.
Try one of the following combinations:
Region Postcode Area Polarization
BBC One SE & ITV1 London TN13 1AA Seven Oaks, Kent Vertical
BBC One Scotland and ITV Border North TD7 5EA Selkirk Horizontal

Anyone know of any sub regional postcodes?

There is no way Freesat can check where you are living.

and why would they want to, assume I had retired to Thornton Cleveleys but had spent all my life in The Midlands, why shouldn't I be able to receive and watch the regional transmissions from the Midlands during my retirement (even though they were probably not a patch on the NW regional programmes:p)

Hi to all in the post well, there is No EPG on Freesat if you live in
Cyprus as you can not get the frequancy of the transponder which
is stated in privious posts. Everything relies on that transponder.

The box (Humax) works just as an ordenary FTA receiver the only
plus side that I can see is that it has an exelent front end.

I have compaird it to many Sky Digiboxes and the Humax comes
out on top every time. A sky box may say No satellite signal were
the Humax is working 100%

As stated before all tests were made on a 2.7m Dish.

Hi Zorba,

That is quite correct I see by your details that you are also in Cyprus
send me a private email and You can come round and see it for yourself.

Its an excellent machine, Mind you the dish must be aligned properly.

It's a shame the EPG doesn't work - that presumably means that PVRs will not work - or be much more limited - in Cyprus. Interesting that reception is better than sky's though.

How is HD reception?

Well I have plugged it into the HDMI input of a Sony Bravia TV
and the output picture is excellent but.... the output received is
a 561i resolution picture and not full HD this is ture with all the channels.

Full HD I have not seen, as you can not
get ITV HD due to the trasnponder frequency not reaching Cyprus.

It sound's like there's not much point getting the HD freesat box for Cyprus - unless the SD isn't as sensitive.

The whole point of the exercise is not if you can get HD but if the
size of the dish you install can be reduced as to the Humax having good sensitivity.

HD would just be a bonus. :)

But if HD isn't available and SD Freesat is as sensitive, why pay the extra?

I think that's the whole point.

What cos32 is saying is that the HD box might be more sensitive and pull in the SD channels at times when other boxes give up the ghost.
