The cross piece does provide little extra support, but I managed to fix one with four long coach bolts, filed off one side of the head so that it locked against the bracket corner and it worked fine.

If in doubt, then use a couple of drilled steel plates to match the holes and provide some extra rigidity, similar to what Likvid has done wit a single plate.

thanks for the reply!

this thread has been so helpful !

appreciate all you jimmle fixit's out there!

p.s i don't suppose you have a picture of it, so i have a better idea..

also the u bolts for the moteck, can anyone tell me if the u part of it is 3.5", as i am pretty sure they are identical to my superjack dg120 bolts, and if i cannot botch it myself i would have to get a replacement (rather not)

I don't have a picture I'm afraid, just measured a Moteck U bolt and it is slightly less than 3 1/2" centre to centre, but only fractionally. Why not take one of the U bolts down to a local light engineering workshop, they'll bend a couple up for you.

thanks for measuring that for me, i have measured mine again and it seems to be slightly bigger than 3.5" - :-(

yes i will find somewhere to make me one

i tried to find one on saturday without much luck, i will try again today!
.............................

you know the clamp teeth part of the fixings, does it matter if that is slightly bent, from when it has been pulled in tight?

.......

edit: just come back from a local engineering place and they wanted £25 for the two..pff! no chance!

and also if i provide m own material they want £10+ vat!

...........

just gone to a welder, and he will bend the rod to the shape for me, and bend the bends to strengthen them again as they will weaken with the bend..

charging me a couple of quid!

this should be ok shouldn't it!

Hi Guys,
Just to put a spanner in the works i have had mine just 6 months and mucked about for ages tightening and untightening the bolts.
No sign of shearing during this.
My only moan is sometimes when moving from extremes it needs tweaking a touch.
Apart from this so far so good!!!

I have now installed the Stab HH120 and the slack is much worse than the Moteck i had.

Is this normal on this motor?

It's not fixable so if anyone is interested in buying a brand new HH120 Stab for half the price or best offer contact me ASAP as i am putting it on Ebay otherwise.

My Fibo is too heavy for it as the arm wobbles too much.

Moteck is back on again despite the noise level, the Stab was almost silent.

O.K, men. A big thanks for your generous imparting of the pitfalls with this moteck motor thing. Anglesey isn't noted for its balmy calm breezes. From what I've gleened a good look at the anchorage is what's required before fixing. My box of never-throw-it-away tricks'll contain all the hardware it looks like I'll need. Thanks again.

Lidvid why don't you use a polar mount and 36v jack & vbox 2

O.K, I've bought a moteck 2100A. For £35 I thought, as a newcomer and thanks to the above warnings, it was worth rolling the dice. The clamp bolts were a few thou thinner than the existing dish bolts which had survived a winter so I swapped them. I couldn't see a problem just at the moment. If I had to comment on any build quality issues I'd say the backplate that clamps to the pole bends before full purchase on the U bolts is reached. There have been high winds here and all seems well. Can't get hispasat but all else o.k. That's my feedback. I hope it's of interest. I'm no expert, but I've done it so anyone with a question- ask away. regards all. P.S

All the stuff mentioned on this thread is true but if you're aware of it before kick off heart aches can be reduced. The thing about this motor is it's cheap. I don't know what the going rate generally is but I paid £35. That's about a dozen pints of guiness. If you're new to motorised systems I'd say spending this amount lessens the pain somewhat. I know you get what you pay for but it's a good piece of kit to make mistakes on. No doubt as time goes on I'll need to replace it and I'll be a lot wiser as to the spec of the new one will need to be. As I mentioned, the back plate is a major issue and the whole shooting match cab be moved by hand long after the nuts harden up thus flexing the plate. With my time over again I'd have welded a bracing plate on before mounting. I might even drill through top and bottom and bolt it to the scaffolding pole I've used for the mounting post. Hope this helps. regards P.S

Hi all - my 1st post - great thread.

So what does an original MOTECK SG2100 / SG2100A look like ?

MOTECK do not make motors for anyone else - officially.

A Google 'Images' search for SG2100 / SG2100A / SG2100-A etc will show dozens of permutations.

I sent an email to Rita YU of MOTECK - Taiwan, to try and clear this up - here's her full reply :

Dear Richard,

The appearance of an ORIGINAL SG2100A DiSEqC motor and copy cats are almost same.
In order for our customer to distinguish an ORIGINAL SG2100A, we put the word of "MADE IN TAIWAN"
carved on SG2100A, not a label.
We also put serial number on top of motor and our MOTECK picture on the protecting carton box.

Below is for reference:

DMS International SG2100A ............. If there is no "MADE IN TAIWAN" carved on the unit, it is copy / fake.
Twin Dish SG2100A / M2100 ............ It is a copy cat / fake.
Digipower SG2100A ......................... If there is no "MADE IN TAIWAN" carved on the unit, it is copy / fake.
Geotek / Geotrack SG2100A ............ It is a copy / fake.
Tecatel SG2100 ......................... It is a copy / fake.
Wineguard SG2100 .......................... It is a copy / fake.
Obrotnica DiSEqC SG2100 ............... It is a copy / fake.
Rotor SAT SG2100 .......................... It is a copy / fake.
Fortec SG2100A .......................... It is a copy / fake.

Best Regards,
Rita Yu

So, MOTECK have only 2 distributors for the SG2100A : 'DIGIPOWER' & 'DMS INTERNATIONAL'

But, these brands MUST have 'Made In Taiwan' engraved / stamped on the bodies (not a label) to be legitimate.

These have 2 distinctly different bases on the dish mounting shafts, but both are MOTECK - see below :
You will see both of these types in the top picture of the MOTECK service brouchure for the SG2100A, which is the link below the pictures :

I have had a few of these, I have two at the moment, not sure or bothered which are 'fakes/copies'. I have taken several of them apart, and modified them to suit various projects, from what I've seen the quality is about the same on all of them. :D

I can understand that the origional maker/retailer might want us to think that his are the 'best' and all the others are rubbish. ;);)

now i can smile for a smile at least....changed all the bolts and stuff that came with the moteck and it indeed worked. Funny that I am located on 27.7E and I can not see 28.2E (Astra 2A)

Astra 2 would have been a blessing because I could see all the UK channels available on that sat. Anyone have the reason why I can not see Astra 2?

For now, I can view Hotbird, Astra 1 & Eutelsat W3A. When I have time, I can play with the motor more to see if I can see more satellite.

So anyone can make this happen too :)
