Hi all, i have a question about modding the two black ultra lnb to wr 75 and use one polarity
with a multiswitch to get better fringe signal to recieve ?

Normaly you can use smw or norsat lnb, but with the Smw the conv gain is to low and
with the Norsat lnb you get not the max frequention to recieve. The solution is a wideband
lnb from Norsat but they are very expencieve.

IF it is possible to mod and bultra to wr 75 then you have for +- 80 euro a good sensitive
recieve system if it works.

Maybe its a solution to first mod the lnb to c120 and then put a 1/4 wave ku trafo between
for optimal signal reception.

I am glad if you have advise and maybe a good idea if its works..

OpenBox X5 on a 1 meter motorized dish.
And now a 10 foot "C" band dish.

The only way I know of to effectively boost a weak satellite signal is to go with a bigger dish, in broadcasting and CATV work we use 8 to 12 meter dishes, no signals lost in the mud with that size of a pan.

I had a 4 meter mesh dish at one time, but it accidentally got sent to the recycle bin during the big move out here to the boonies.

Whilst in some instances a well designed and tuned OMT can improve reception by filtering out unwanted noise on the opposite polarity, there is always a loss fom the transitions between C120 to WR75, I have a chart somewhere that gives the losses on 10, 11 12 and 13GHz somewhere.

I found that an SMW 1dB LNA + LNCs with a C120 to WR75 adapter gave was within +1dB -0.25dB of an Invacom 0.3db C120 (i.e. SMW is slightly better). That was on an IRTE wideband feed without anything else in the path. SMW make a C120 OMT but I have no experience of it OMT Ku -. That includes transitions to WR75.
I've been able to get up to 1dB with things like precise tweaks of polarisation per satellite and setting the band switch to use the best part of the LNB (e.g. switch at 11.4GHz instead of 11.7 if the high band part of the LNB is better). It all adds up but, unless something is wrong, as others have said, dish size is all.

I have a chart somewhere that gives the losses on 10, 11 12 and 13GHz somewhere.
Interesting, if you can find it
