Not Lidl, but something useful for the Garage/Workshop

Today I went out and bought 2 sets of 3.8m Telescopic ladders, wasn't sure which one to get so got them both and returned the ones I didn't like (I asked the store first)

Ended up trying Xtend and Climb Pro 3.8m and Youngman 3.8m, the Youngman are actually made by Telesteps and you can find them under the name of Zarges too.

Also I ended up getting a Dewalt Brushless Impact Gun, how have I managed without one of these!

Verdict is, I kept the Youngman (Telesteps), the steps are MUCH deeper and far more comfortable, a much better locking system which makes all the difference putting them up and taking them down. Also little things like rubber bumpers instead of plastic and they feel so much more stable than the Xtend and Climb when climbing them.

Nice ladders mate I have a set myself, in constant use, mines have the stabiliser bar at the bottom, other than that same ladder, 70 quid mines were about 4 years ago.

I wish I could have got these for £70, there's were £200, if I wanted the same ladder with a Telesteps logo they are nearly twice the price.

Karcher is JUNK, I won't buy their pressure washers any more, same story with each one they split and leak, even tried the metal pumped ones.

Karchers usually fail when they are put away with water in the chambers and then the frost hits.

I have had my Karcher for 5 years now works as well as when I bought it & store it in the electric / gas meter cupboard on a shelf especially made for it :)

Both my K5 ecologics failed within a week and it was in the summer.

The smaller cheaper ones I had were left in the shed in all weather's so that's probably what happened to them.

Slightly OT but never mind.

Ive got a set of what used to be known as "stacking shelves" which I want to put in the garage for SWMBO's plant posts. Its the old bolt together type using short bolts (2cm or so) with a wide head & a corresponding wide nut. In the house move the ruddy nuts have got misplaced.

All modern shelves seem to be no bolt types. Can anyone advise what size bolts I need please?

In the workshop and we get very little frost here, well a bit more just now.

Update on the Parkside tools, having finally managed to get down the garage for 20 mins (been tied up for the last few days doing U3A Photo Group stuff & ferrying the wife to her various appointments!)|

Image1a shows "The Three Amigos" now mounted together

Images2a-6a show the new Grinder in place on the metal shield I fabricated to stop the sparks hitting the bench and window (and the shield works quite well), and how it can be used to cut steel piping - went through 22mm steel tube like the proverbial "hot knife through butter" and makes a very clean cut, but previous tests on a scrap of something akin to steel scaffolding pole caused a LOT more sparks!

Image7a shows the new knobs I got to replace the broken ones on the Bench Press Drill

Looks great, nice set up you have there.

I've looked at the Lidl and Aldi press drills, but never bought one as I wasn't sure if they would be any good or not,
is the chuck true on it or does it wobble at all?

Not very much wobble at all, and certainly a lot less than the old Nutool drill.

Overall, very pleased considering how little I spent for all three (around £150, excluding about an extra £25 for various spare blades for the mitre saw). Might have to spend another £22 for better grinder blade that is supposed to produce far fewer sparks, but only after the supplied blade gets worn!

I have a 1992 set of shelves with similar bolts, and I suspect that the latter are "coach bolts" - as then sometimes still used on roof panels at the time - and they might use square, not hexagonal, nuts with AF or Whitworth coarse threads. Might be difficult to find those now, so maybe more sensible to use modern coach bolts with metric threads with a similar shank diameter as they should be easier to find, and cheaper than the old versions.

Brilliant, good on you mate, well cheaper than B&Q.

I did actually look around at B&Q, Machine Mart, Screwfix, Toolstation, Amazon, Ebay and so on, but the Lidl tool prices were lower and they came with a 3yr Warrantee - although sending the tools back if they fail will be a bit of a nightmare!

OTOH, all the tools look pretty well made, and certainly not flimsy and likely to break quickly (first impressions of course, and "you never know").

Also, when I spotted that Grinder was due to become available then that got my interest as I could see how useful it could be - and then I couldn't actually find anything like it anywhere else!

An Axminster has opened up not too far from here, keep meaning to have a look in there. I know people who have had their products mail order and been very happy with them for the price/performance ratio.

I've been hoping they would do a Android TV box with a Google certified firmware and a locked bootloader so it would be able to support Netflix HD.
