Here's one: Continual references to Lidl and Aldi as "Discounters" when they are by now established and efficient competitors to the behemoths like Tesco, and deserve a little more credit and acceptance that they are now mainstream.

How is it that CEO's of councils and senior management of councils earn more than the best paid Members of Parliament and indeed the Prime Minister? it does not make any sense

Reporters, generally, with their lazy clichéd stock phrases that they churn out without stopping to ask themselves; 'Do I know what I'm talking about?'

If they asked that, they would be out of the job!

Presenters who whoop and squeal like adolescent girls every time something works! TG presenters do it a bit but particularly irritating is the guy who does Engine addict - Jimmy Deville. 'The engine starts; whoop, We've got 66hp - whoop whoop..... ad nauseum!

Maybe I'm just having a bad day?

Tailgaters really p**s me off. I will quite happily slam the brakes on if some tw*t is driving too close to me. They usually get the message after that :-lmao

Afraid that's 'de rigeur' here...that and overtaking on a bend or just before a blind brow...but don't get me started on French driving standards...

Driving standards in Spain are on the same level.
Does not help by the way they are instructed. When I took my Class C licence here, I was advised by the instructor the following two points, amongst others.

On a 3 lane motorway always use the middle lane, the right hand lane is only for turning off!
In a roadworks zone, always do 10 - 15 Km per hour above the specified limit!
Otherwise, you´ll fail the exam.
Bearing in mind you could be fully loaded, 40 Ton

I passed the exam my way, not his!

Someone told me a while back (and I took it with a large 'pincee de sel') that learner drivers are indeed taught to tailgate, overtake in stupid places, speed and indicate after a turn...I see no evidence to the contrary, indeed displaying 'A' plates (where the driver is supposed to be accompanied) seems to be a licence to drive like an idiot...

What scares me in France is when you see an emergency vehicle stonking along at 70 ish kph with another one only a couple of metres behind. Course they're both using blues and twos so they couldn't possibly crash into each other

On one occasion I had to accompany my late wife on her return journey from hospital after an operation. The young girl who picked me up to go and collect her, drove a taxi/ambulance (ordinary car with a trained paramedic driver) and was running quite late. Once onto the autoroute she rapidly got up to about 150/160 kph. That didn't really bother me, it was just that she tailgated as well and I could read the small print on the number plate of the car in front. (She'd done her training in Paris BTW)

I used to get that when i drove for a living. I mean as if a 5 series BMW is going to intimidate somebody by tailgating somebody driving a 40ft long 18 tonne truck.

It would have been more of a case of "If you cant stop, please smile as you go under" as i didn't feel a thing, or ooh i think my load may have moved a bit :D

truck.jpg

Although not caused by tailgating this gent was texting as the time. They found the phone still in his hand, his head was on the back seat. Isn't texting fun :-lmao

I can never understand why commercial vehicles do not have the rear end blanked off with an impcact zone.
