scopus,

It looks like a Jaeger 1224 that you have your CM 1.8m dish mounted on for Azimuth motorisation?
Have you done any reinforcement of the 1224 such as the "Panzer Plate" modification inside the casing?

The elevation motorisation looks very robust, if you have the system still in operation would you please be able to provide some pictures showing the elevation bracketry and stuff in a little more detail. I have a spare 1224 here that I would like to get setup for elevation motorisation.

VS,

Would you please be able to provide the eBay listing number for the SL3K4NR?
I tried the eBay item number from page 2 of this topic (281406044888) but it did not find a listing or an expired listing?

Rgds
Sorry Moonbase ..
obviously that listing is old and no longer viable..
Which variation of the SL3 did you want ??
I'll keep my eyes peeled for you when browsing ebay

Scopus, the SUP-2400 is a baseband converter, down-converting the SL3's KA band into a usable spectrum for our receivers. The 22kHz doesn't change the KA band frequency.

Is the SUP-2400 required only when using the SL3 LNB?
Or is it required for other Ka band LNB's (Nortel XMW) when using a set top box satellite receiver?
What about using a TBS6925 card, does this require the SUP-2400 to be in line?

Yes ...
& Yes
but only if you want to receive the Ka band A
ie 18200 to 19200
For this frequency range it is essential with the SL3 (any variation)

VS,

Thank you for the quick reply, sorry to ask for clarification but I am slightly confused on one point.
If I want to receive Ka Band A using a Nortel or an XMW LNB and either an FD9000 feed or an Elite Antennas WR42 Ka feed will I still need the SUP-2400?

I am not clear if the SUP-2400 is only required for SL3 LNB's and for all other types of LNB the SUP-2400 is not required no matter what band (A/B/C/D) is being used.

No ..
as I said previously ..
The SUP2400 is only needed for Ka band A on an SL3 lnb
No other dedicated Ka lnbs use or need it..

The motor is called a 'Jumbo' motor and was made by 'Unicorn Satellites' now no longer in business. It is a beefed up case with 1224 gearbox and motor inside. The arrangement for elevation control is my version of nelsonb's setup.P1010020.JPG P1010017.JPG P1010018.JPG P1010019.JPG

VS,

Which of the SL3 LNB's would you say is the best for a "non modder" to go for, would it be the SL3..... -01 version or the SL3..... -03 version? If one version is better for weak signals, that one would seem to be my best option.

I would hope to fit it to a channel master 1.2m dish and have the SL3 as the only LNB on the dish. I assume I would need to do some adjustment to the current LNB collar holder that is on the dish to get the SL3 centred?

There seem to be a few on eBay and the moment, its just deciding which one to go for.

Gain wise very little to choose between them ...
The o2 is perhaps to be avoided as the internal structure and probe positioning is at 45 degrees to vertical ..and the narrow oval slits (ka input ports ) dont lend themselves easily to fitting a Trust feed ..or depolariser plate.
Prolly the 01 or 03 is your best bet..

Looks good to me ..
certainly for the price ..a good investment for experiment....

VS,

Thx for the confirmation the SL3 is OK that I linked to.

....
So ..you finally opened an ebay account moonbase ?

Yes, I had to move forward with the times. I also got a mobile phone two months ago, amazing thing it is, does pictures and videos as well as phone calls and you can send message notes to people with it. Astonishing how technology has changed since I used to hand start the car with a crank handle that went onto a peg under the front radiator.

I know what you mean MB..
just this last weekend I was dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century ..and now have my first EVER mobile fone ..
Not that I wanted one ..but my friend insisted so I can keep in contact by text etc when shes out of the country..
Cost more than I wanted to pay ..but being a smart fone ..
it does have advantages ..as I can connect to my home wifi ..and use various apps.
and best of all ..I just top up credits as and when needed.
Suffice to say it will get more use as a mini tablet.
;)

This is a direct link to download crazy scan Dropbox - crazyscan v1.0.2.123.rar .

The lo for 18ghz is 24.500 and for 20ghz 18.050. My bbc has been modded to powered on all the time. If you're bbc hasn't had the mod, or been switched on, then you will not get 18ghz.
