I guessed these changes would have happened tomorrow but obviously have gone with them today. This Txp closes on the 31st so guess all that now remains is to drop the uplink carrier tomorrow.

Tough. The BBC is having to make numerous cuts, and widebeam tps are more expensive to rent then the narrow ones. (source - the BBC technical blog which announced all these changes). A new narrow beam tp (DSAT 8) will replace 11954 (DSAT 7)

Perhaps more broadcasters not affiliated with Sky (Viacom, UKTV, Discovery Networks) should all rent narrow beam Txp's rather than widebeam ones to save a few quid. It's only Sky who want to appeal to expats via the 'back door' whereas other broadcasters will get their slice of subscription revenue regardless. It also makes it easier for them, eg UKTV, to make their freeview FTA offerings FTA on DSAT too once encryption contracts come up for renewal.

The text says PE transponders are not cost effective because for rights reasons they limit the material that they can be used to transmit. At least that's how I read it.

another example of britainia (the uk without scotland) becoming insular,a word i hear a lot more now . to save about the same as j.ross wages per year and cut a million OAPS off from their homeland is so short term....the english channel gets wider everyday....my short wave radio here can pick up drive time beijing so i get the latest reports of traffic jams in china....the world turns and the sun rises in the east as it sets in the west

Perhaps the "OAPS" should move back to the UK if they can't do without their beloved BBC. While I agree it would be good to have a decent Europe wide BBC service for expats (not the joke that is BBC Entertainment) I don't think it should be to the expense of the UK licence payer.

i gusess sky use pe beam local freesat use spot beam
tested astra 1n this morning i got 1.5 db no lock signal but when tested 2f it was 2.5 db and litel more
it betwin 1db to 1.5db will be stronger 2f
