I'm fairly sure I read somewhere that it's a backup transmission. Perhaps for the UK terrestrial TV transmitters?

That was my understanding too. The package is called BBC-SATBACK, which could mean satellite backup? I suppose the question is does someone need to go to each transmitter site to update the codes or can it be done remotely? I assume just the main transmitters would have the sat backup backup and not some of the smaller fill in transmitters.
But don't the "fill in transmitters" just relay signals from the main transmitters?

Who "officially" receives this package? Re-transmitters? How do they update the keys? Manually or....?
As far as I understand its a backup service to the transmitter network.

Certainly until fairly recently the transmitters could be made to all feed each other up the chain - every year there would be an emergency test from London where each transmitter picked up the signal from its neighbours further south and rebroadcast it - apparently by the time you got into Scotland the signal was pretty ropey. This being back in analogue days of course.

I have a problem to get this working.
Previously i got it working with my Vu Ultimo with BH image and mgcamd 1.3.8
I put the softcam.key in to the /keys and strated the mgcamd from the "blue" button.
Softcam.key like this:
F 10441FFF 00 **************** ; BBC One England (27.5°W)

Did something change when the key changed or am I doing something wrong here ´cos none of the channels open for me now!
Was it something with the mgcamd version?
Please help.

Has anyone successfully opened these channels using an Openbox?

Apparently even more stand alone boxes are capable of receiving BBC from 27.5W. So far Technomate boxes easily do the job as well as Dr.HD F15/F16 and Clarke-Tech HD5000.
Does anyone know if Clarke-Tech ET9000 can deal with the scrambled PMT as well?

Who knows. (Well, they do, obviously!).

They aren't ignorant and know that the Encryption is insecure, but they are still going about it the same way.

So it's either a periodic planned change (in which case it'll recur) or it's a recognition of compromise on an unacceptable level: But if it's the latter, one might have expected a somewhat more robust change.

We can but wait to see what happens next.
IMHO the question is how the constant CWs are updated in the distributed receivers. Maybe it's done by hand ;)

As a matter of interest the screen shot shows the picture as 1920 x 1080i. Can you tell if it is tuly that or really 1440 x 1080i?
Why you ask? Is there any HD channel with 1440x1080i left?

I'll have to leave this disgreement between you and Llew. I asked the question because I just did not know - and still don't!

The CWs "could" in theory be sent by means of an OTA update to authorised IRDs/receivers

These feeds may well be back up for the UK DTT network but there again could also feed the cable head ends in Europe that carry the BBC

I know they are not scrambled now but I do think into the future and because I am thinking of getting a new receiver I would go for one that can handle it in case they do scramble again.

I got problem with the PMT.
I think for sure it is the PMT and not the key, 'cos on the other forum people can see all channels with DR. Receivers

Not really surprising - the PMT tables were scrambled for much of last year.....
