All Enigma2 boxes more or less have the same tinkerability (more than enough to keep you occupied!). Think of it as an operating system. Windows 7 for example will more or less work the same on different hardware - the only differences are RAM, hard drive space, CPU and various add-ons. The same applies to these sat boxes.

Uno is a good box and is the one I'd go for.

Thanks CJ, the UNO seems expensive but I'm guessing you get what you pay for.

Read around the Vu+ sections & learn how to reflash it when you break it - and you will.

It took me exactly an hour to completely trash the operating system on my Duo :-rofl2

Not like :(
how many years does it take to even start to understand this stuff? Someone should start a "plain English" thread. Everything needs translating, for a newbie like me it's incredibly hard. I'm an electrical contractor, if someone asks me about electrical regs or technical explaination of stuff I explain it in understandable words and terms, the world of satellite tv decoders seems to be very different, I don't get it but GOD DAMN IT IM GONNA TRY! "lord help me"

Right, I completely screwed up. Somehow I bought the SOLO by mistake. Bloody hell. It's been shipped too so too late to do anything about it. So, am I screwed? Is it useless for my needs. Can't believe I didn't read the advert properly.

Surely the seller has a Returns Policy?

If you send it back unopened, won't you just lose pp?

Yes, maybe I could return it, before I do though I want to be sure u can't do what I want with it. Knowing my wish to tinker maybe someone who's on the forum could tell me if it holds any possibilities for me

Not really. If you go back and read Analoguesat's thread you can see the majority of his problems come from the way he is using the hardware. Uno (or Ultimo) would have been a better choice for him because the hardware is so much better for doing searches. Right now they are still pretty new receivers so the current images haven't taken full advantage of those hardware capabilities but give it a couple of months and there will be search features and filters never seen before on any satellite receiver. Like he says the Duo (and Solo) is very good for watching TV, but maybe not so good as a spectrum research tool.

You will still be able to tinker with it no problem, Just the Solo runs an older chipset with 333mhz CPU where as the Uno has the latest 7413 chipset with dual core 404mhz cpu incorporating more features just off the top of my head Blindsan and Picture in Picture come to mind and a few others, Its also quite faster as well.

I've had a VU+ Solo for quite a while and have run it on both a motorised system and presently on a multi sat setup. I'm using a VIX image on it and it's run faultlessly (touch wood) for a long time. I'm not computer friendly and Linux is a mystery to me, however with the help of this forum I've got it set up just as I want it. I only use it for FTA channels however.
