Hi

I am thinking of replacing my Humax Foxsat Hdr for a Vu+ Duo 2 box but just a bit worried If It will be as good as my Humax box at fringe reception ?

I would like to change to the Vu+ Duo 2 so I can combine all the paid tv I have from astra 19.2 & 23.5 with the freesat. Apparently this will be easy with OpenVix Image Installed and will still be easy for the family to operate once all setup.

Are the Vu+ Duo 2 boxes very bad at fring ? If so what would be better ?

Unfortunately I don't konow Foxsat.

..but I have tested Dreambox Si2166 tuner and it is best what I have had.
I have compared it to DM8000HD, Duo2, Solo4k TM5402 MK3 and difference is clear for DM tuner.
These are from other forum where I wrote about Si2166.

First is Duo2 if I recall right - actually all receivers I mentioned above are about on this same level. Differences are so small

At same time DM Si2166 picture was perfect:

Hi well many thanks for the comments.

In the end I just went ahead and ordered the duo2 and It's all set up now with two feeds from the 2.4m dish for astra 28. and one duo lnb feed for both astra 19.2 & 23.5

So far so good.... I haven't done a side by side test but hopefully there Is not much In It.

One obvious difference Is the Duo 2 will show whatever picture It can even if omes and goes often but the Humax probably has a higher cut off point that just brings up the no signal message.

The Astra 28. Uk beams fluctuate here and currently I can still get them with the duo 2 some of the time just like before so If It Is weaker It Is probably not by much.

Apart from that the box Is great, nice to be able to just have one box for all the satelites. I am using the open vix image.

The Auto timer (series link) Is In some ways more customisable so that's good too although It's a slight shame It cant be as simple as the sky or Freesat series link faeture but perhaps that will come later.

Regards

Duo2 is not bad choice.
It's the same here, signals from 2E fade away in the evenings. DM 7080 with Si2166 is helping little bit, but not making miracles.
Biggest differencess are coming from dish anyway.

Yes definately ! Luckily for us most of the channels we watch are on the stronger beams here except for the C5's but even then we have just realised the Irish RTE channels actually also show some of the channel 5 stuff and actually some c4 & bbc programmes so that's a great backup. Then you have always got on demand etc...

Not sure why you wanted to move away from the Humax - in non freesat mode you can do switching using its advanced menus.

Yes It's a great box but swithching between freesat mode & the non freesat mode is a bit of a pain. Anyway we wanted to to be able to have 4 tuners In one box and to be able to access "other" channels that the freesat box cannot give us.
