My Satellite Setup
Hello everyone,
I am looking to install a Hispasat Portuguese Satellite (already got the box) and interested in getting either Freesat/Sky or aerial installed.

We just bought a new-built house from a major developer and all cabling is pre-installed
My Location
LU1 4FH
Hi all,

Currently looking for a qualified electrician and Sat installer to do set up a 30W NOS with an 80cm dish for and a 28.2E FreeSat with a dish.
The dishes need to be put on the roof (3 storey high detached building), cabling to go on the loft; we are in Caddington, just 2 miles down of Luton towards Dunstable.

The dishes will need to be connected to the multiswitch, and the multiswitch outputs to the distribution cables leading to each room; the receivers need to be setup with a DiSEqC and Quattro LNB would be ideal. An additional media plate for satellite will also need to be installed.

All materials must be supplied, except for NOS box and card which I already have.

Ideally this should be done ASAP. How much would it cost to install? Any recommendations on whom to hire?

Cheers

Well it is now 10 days since you posted this and as I suspected at the time you have had no responses. We do have a couple of installers on this hobby forum but perhaps not in your locality. Perhaps the reason is that you are asking for someone qualified in two distictly separate disciplines. What is the reason for wanting a qualified electrician? Would it not be better to invite a sat installer and ask him for his recommendations or are you convinced you know more than him?

maybe he thinks sat installers have to be qualified electricians.

Could be that he need a mains outlet to be installed in the loft to power the multiswitch & so on as there probably is not one already there.

@TJExcalibur 'He' doesn't think they must be qualified. But I have a brand new built with 10 years warranty and if anyone does any electrical works without certification, and let's suppose something happens, insurance nor warranty will cover it.
@jeallen01 'He' does need not have power in the loft and therefore such would need to be put in place, as well as the creation of a media socket in one of the rooms which currently doesn't have it.

@Topper "Would it not be better to invite a sat installer and ask him for his recommendations or are you convinced you know more than him?" I wouldn't be against a visit of sat installer for recommendations. Actually came to this website with the intend to get recommendations on what to get installed. Actually, before posting the job I have enquired what I should get done as works, and it was another one of your Admins that recommended the exact works that were stated (with exception to the fact of being a qualified electrician) from @Analoguesat and a subscriber @st1 .
As for the last question, no, I am not 'convinced that I know more than a Sat Installer' as I wouldn't have such arrogance to say so, but do know this: I know what I want, and if there isn't someone here who can do it, then that is just unfortunate. It is disappointing to see that an admin on the other hand would expect such arrogance for subscribers and treat them as such.

If you ask info on Sat Forum you gonna get Sat info ..

95% of Sat installers don't have the Certificates to also do Electrics .

You need to get an Electrician in your house and sort out any electrical work that is required . Ask for the relevant docs to be covered in case of anything .

When it's all done and stamped look for a Sat installer .

Job done .

I suggest you pick up your local paper / Gumtree / Friday-ad / Observer and if i google Luton Satellite Installers it comes back with lots of hits .

Just ring them up and ask .

"Obvious" answer = get 2 quotes - one for the electrical "stuff", and then one for the sat "stuff"!

Not wishing to "put down" the OP, but @Topper is quite correct - most of us here are "amateurs" (albeit mainly quite experienced ones!) and we give the most suitable advice that we can. One has to make up one's mind as to what to, and if that means "going elsewhere" for "definitive advice" then so be it.

I think everyone has got their sensitivity buttons on maximum at the moment. Scenario:- a post is not answered by anyone for 10 whole days, I answer it asking questions and the thread breaks into life and people supply or ellicit information accordingly. As this is a hobbyist forum it is unlikely (but not impossible) that either of the disciplines is covered by folk on here. Yes perhaps I could have been less probing however the fact remains that the original question as to why an electrician is required has still not been answered. If at the end of the day nobody is able to help then that indeed is unfortunate, but may persuade O/P to employ his own skills or learn new ones like we all did.

I know if If I ever bought a new build house that contractually required the builder to provide specific services that were not provided, then I would be taking legal advice if all alternative avenues of desnagging had failed before involving third parties to ameliorate the situation, as every new build has a 10 or 15 year guarantee.

From first impressions the heights required for the outdoor equipment (and the distance of install from here) were the sticklers, otherwise I would have been in touch.

Multiswitches are not all mains powered, plenty have a remote supply system up/down the cable, though only an experienced installer is going to know the options without searching.

Lastly a few images of the house posted in the first request might have given answers before they need asking.

Not much experience here. I spend hours trying figure something out and discover the answer is very logical and simple. As you get older you realise what you once knew you have forgotten and you have to learn it all again. :-doh

Indeed very true and an aspect which one does not give a thought to until crossing that threshold
