What? Don't you think with a 3.5m dish a 3dB ripple on the spectrum is not possible? Also you are assuming it is pointing 15º further east but that's just assumption. And for all we know Solly could be receiving the Africa beam, after all it encompasses 30ºE when the satellite arrives at the final location so 15º more would mean the beam stretches to 45ºE.The UK spot beam wont make it down there, even when 15°off to the east.
From my vague recollections at college, when related to power a 3dB increase doubles power and 10dB gives a 10 fold increase, when related to voltage a 6dB/20dB increase gives 2 or 10 fold increase. As dB is a relative term it is normally used as dBm for power with 0dBm being 1mW and 0dbuV for 1uV. The relationship between power and voltage varies depending on the impedance being used, I suspect 75 Ohms for satellite most of my calibration was with 50 Ohm equipment. 0dB on its own means not a lot and not sure about noise floor of a spectrum analyser as the noise level goes up and down. Please feel free to correct this as it has been a very long time since I sat in a RF lab.could you explain what +8dB stands for (what is 0dB ? ) ?
I see. Power level can be a hint but frequency? Nope... they can use any frequency on any beam now.
Besides that I think at solly's location, nothing but the PE beam should be receivable anyway. The UK spot beam wont make it down there, even when 15°off to the east.
It is currently testing at 43.5E and has been there for the last 3 weeks. And it does appear on Lyngsat.i heard that this satellite has not made it to its final possion.it is moving at 1.5 degrees per day. that's 622 miles per 24 hour.
it should be up for tests and power by or about 15 nov 2012.
lynsat does not even conver anything on 2f as of yet.
