Ok ..
Today I took delivery of a more recent variant of the DirecTV SL3 Triple Ka/Ku/Ka lnb..
First impressions are favourable ..
This LNB from the USA is most likely the last variation that is useful to us in the UK/Europe as it doesn't use SWiM tech thus we can access the bands directly..
Swim makes this impossible as the technology stacks the bands onto the downlink main cable in such a way that only their boxes can access the IF data.
I shall be opening it up for a photo session in the near future..
But first I wanted to play around with it a little.
So to this end I substituted it for my modded SL3 using cable ties.
Carl was then swung over to 19.2 E ..and a scan was done of Ka band A with the fixed to band KaA SUP-2400 in line..
The results were instant and obvious ..
See the attached images ..
even without dish tweaking AZ EL it was possible to lock the UNIRE horse feed at 10 db+
So ..this lnb actually looks to be higher gain than the older SL3.
Things to note ..
The feeds are Circular coned for KA ...unluke the oval apertures of the older SL3
The Septum convertor is still present thus designed and better at circular reception ...
This being evident from the dual H/V or L/R scan which duplicates the linear peaks and doesn't distinguish between them.
I shall now gently nudge over to the Turksat Ka A broadcast which IS circular ..
If successful I should get a peak in only one of the scans ...and hopefully much larger than previous.
