Sorry Martin ..
Not following that at all ...
how can 14 db be too weak ?
the TBS card can resolve the signsl but the SX6 cant ...and it's the same source

Yes ...
and Yes
I have already posted a scan of the multistream signal as seen by the TBS card ..
The signal is over 13 db and more than adequate ..but the SX6 cant see anything ??

The SX6 is currently showing KTO at 97%

How do you connect your openbox? Are you using loop port from tbs?

No Vod ..
The signal source for the TBS card and the Signal Source for the SX6 both come from a 16 port diseqc switch ...ku being output on port7 ....and split through a Smart priority swich ..
so depends which is turned on at the time ..
The TBS or the SX6
So unless the SX6 is throwing away or ignoring the diseqc control signal but only when receiving the multistream transponder ...then I cant see how or why this is happening.
Tomorrow I'll connect the SX6 directly to the lnb bypassing all switches ...just to see if there is a bug in the firmware disabling the diseqc switch ..somehow.

Well the max DB i could possibly get out of any sat box I use is 10 DB, so I am guessing 14DB is a weak signal with a sat card ?. and the open box as a weak tuner ?.

I guess that is just possible Martin ...but its already been said in this thread that the SX6 tuner compares favourably with the F15 for tuner gain ..
and weak or not the TBS card locks and resolves the signal solidly.
So unless the SX6 tuner is faulty ??
I have no idea ...
It doesn't make sense to me...

Yeah, i think the problem is there with master and slave function and polarisation power, i dont have it so i can only guess how it works, i suggst to try connect openbox directly to diseqc without 'Smart priority swich'.
You can also try to tune tbs to any channel in 12500-12750 H range (open it in any dvb programm) and see if there is any signal for SX.

I shall be trying this tomorrow ...
Can't do it tonight as it means crawling around in the loft to bypass switches ..and feed the inverto lnb output directly to the SX6..

I wonder how Phantom is getting on with his efforts to develop a box, last I read he was working on it, maybe @william-1 might have some information for us ? :)

It has all gone very quiet at TM I will have a word with them to see how far this new receiver is from release.

DSCF0061.webp Well ...
I can stop ranting and start fixing now I guess ..
Still dont know what is causing the signal bottleneck ...but at least I know the receiver works .,.and that the problem can be fixed ..though at this point I dont know the cause.
A faulty switch in the system ...maybe ..
but bypassing all switches from the point the cable enters the loft to the downlead to the receiver ..and I get full signal ..
I'll have some breakfast then set about tracking down the problem ..

Hmm ...
I dont think this is so much an overall gain issue ...so much as a IF slope problem ..
To me it looks like the gain is very rapidly dumped at the high end 12600 to 12750 so to speak ..
The Italian mutistream is in this region..
Nothing else appears to be affected ..but the signal drops dramatically through the switches at the top end ...
I need the switches in the system or I can't access the other lnbs and dishes ...
I've therefore inserted a Triax in line amp just after the SPS and just before the output of the 16 way diseqc ...
It doesn't restore full signal ..but there is a definate improvement ...
Insofaras I am getting about 75% or thereabouts indicated on the SX6 ..
not zero as I was previously..
The Triax in line amp is different to standard in line amps as it has variable gain and slope pots..
The slope being more relevant in this case ..
Some tweaking of these pots for best effect now ..and will see if it gets me a result..
Otherwise I may have to seperate the SX6 from the system and put it on its own dish and LNB.
At times like this a good meter like Llews ranger would be a big help..
Perhaps one day after my lottery win ..
lol

So here are three photos of the setup as it currently is ..
That is all signals passing through the Gecen 16 port diseqc switch and 3 daisychained Smart priority switches ...but with the Triax slope compensated in line amp set in three stages ..
Max Mid and Min ...
The gain pot is never changed ...
Notice the orange bar changes littleDSCF0063.webp DSCF0064.webp DSCF0065.webp ..presumed signal ..
but the green bar does change ..quite a bit in fact ..
Sig Quality ??
Oh for a decent meter ..
lol
anyway ..providing the in line amp has no effect on the positioner 22Khz signal (not checked yet ) ....it will be staying in the system ..and may solve the problem.

It's yours when I pop my clogs - don't know anyone nearest or dearest who would even know what the hell it is :-rofl2
Don't send the assassin team round just yet though...

Hope you get this one sorted VS. S/N and BER seems to present no problem with your Crazyscan at the high end of the scan without adding inline slope compensation. I would have thought the SX6 would be OK too, unless you have a tuner problem.

It is a cumulative effect Llew ..
introduced by the SPS switches ..
There are 3 atm effectively introducing slope errors per switch I think ..though it is difficult to prove for me anyway..
Adding a 4th just for the hell of it ..and to prove a point ...the triax amp cannot compensate for a 4th ..so it fails .
Serves me right I suppose for wanting to push the envelope to the max ..

Looks like the TBS tuner still outranks all others ..

Oh ..btw ..
Dont answer that knock at the door ...
I have called off the hit ..
:D

seriously tho ...
Chances are I'll pop my clogs about the same time you do ...so I'll keep looking for a second hand one ..if such a thing exists..
What was your meter model exactly ...and what did it cost you new ?
Just a mo'
better take my meds before I read the reply ..
;)

Not much change out of 5K - paid for from car crash insurance (almost exactly the same amount).
I couldn't buy another car at the time - I could hardly walk for a couple of months, so I blew it on this model -

...at least you didn't squander it on wild living Llew ..
:D
perhaps someone will get tired of theirs when a new model comes along ...and put the old HD ranger on fleabay ..
I'll be watching ..
cheers

Well ..I tried various methods to integrate this box into my system ...loop throughs ...SPS (s) ...etc ..but non were fully effective ..
I guess it's the straw that broke the camels back in many respects ...
What I really need to do this job effeciently simply doesn't exist ..for the domestic consumer.
Similar to a complex multiswitch ...but yet dissimilar for the most part.
As with a 16 way diseqc switch which will allow multiple lnb inputs to 1 output ....I need the reverse as well ...
one output split at least 6 ways preferably 8 ..to a clutch of receivers ..
..and working on a first come first served basis ...
ie ...whichever receiver is active takes FULL control of all 16 inputs ..which includes motors and lnbs ..
Daisy chaining smart priority switches goes some way to achieve this but has its limitations in that it not only intoduces losses which can be catered for ...but those losses are uneven ..affecting the slope or noise floor of the IF.
I can daisy chain 2 SPS switches with some degradation ..but at level that the tuners can cope with ..
3 at a pinch ...but 4 is a no-no ..
a step too far.
What is needed is a something like a multiswitch which does allow multiple receivers to be connected to a Quatro lnb source ....but not to control a quatro ..but single source lnbs ...and assign priority to the end user ..thus allowing that user (receiver) to take FULL control ..
Hope that makes sense ..
So for now at least I have the SX6 connected to the system ...not with an SPS ..but a simple manual A/B switch.
Problem solved but hardly a technical miracle..
cest la vie.
