    Astra 2E: Testing at 43.5E

IF that is really going to be enough for 24/7 reception, with or without good or bad weather. If you're "out of area", even for just a few hours of the day, no size dish will be enough. Like I wrote before, I know of somebody who lives 35 km east of Hanover and has a 2.6m dish, which actually...

    Astra 2E: Testing at 43.5E

well again, if 2E is going to be the same as 2F, then that means at least there won't be any additional bad surprises compared to the shock when 2F brought us a tight spot beam and then some. There are alternatives... I've got XBMC with the FilmOn addon on my notebook PC to carry me over the...

    Astra 2E: Testing at 43.5E

...and if SES aren't reading and taking notes, the rights holders definitely will, and if they feel that beam overspill undermines their market segmentation efforts, then they are going to tell SES to adjust the beam. Meanwhile, 2F is having a few good days here. Hanover, where I am, is right...

    Astra 2E: Testing at 43.5E

I think so too, tbh. What did broadcasters and rights holders want with the 2F satellite? A spot beam that was as tight as possible. I am sure if the technology was advanced enough to make the beam drop to zero right outside the UK's three mile zone, then that's what we would see (or not see ;)...

    Astra 2E: Testing at 43.5E

So you're saying that 2E's UK spot beam aerial can be expected to be pretty much a carbon copy of that on 2F? (and that the 2E satellite has essentially been in storage at SES the last year?)

Astra 2F: Central & East Europe Discussion

Exceptionally poor reception here tonight on 4seven and Channel5. It has honestly never been this bad at this time of the day since 2F took up service. Around midnight CET, both transponders were back more or less, but now, Channel5 is gone again and 4seven is hanging on for dear life at 2.5 dB...

Astra 2F: Central & East Europe Discussion

well if this is how it's going to be with 2F permanently, a few weeks of somewhat good reception and then a few days of not so great signal up to total signal loss, and then back to normal, then that's something I think most of us can live with. There are other things to life besides UK telly...

Astra 2F: Central & East Europe Discussion

It's pretty much always like that here. Decent reception throughout the morning (about 7-9 am), noon, and early afternoon, then the signal deteriorates quickly towards late afternoon, no more lock from about 6-7pm, and then it sometimes comes back at 11pm, sometimes not until about 1 or 2 am...

Astra 2F at 28E (at last!)

they should thank us... we are doing much of the work for them by compiling accurate up-to-the-minute Europe-wide reception reports that don't cost them a penny. I know they have their own measuring posts dotted across Europe on the ground, but we are providing them with quite a bit of detail as...

Astra 2F at 28E (at last!)

Murdoch Inc. bowing to inevitable reality?? You are joking ;) EDIT: anybody in the UK have an update on 10994H? It's been romoured to also have moved already... poor reception in extreme fringe areas today, similar to 11798, with a bunch of ITV1 regionals on it...

Astra 2F at 28E (at last!)

I'm just not sure it would make sense for Sky, IF they are looking to move their channels onto the new satellite(s), to put their content on the PE beam... what for? It's British TV for Brits, and you need a Sky box for it, which you are only supposed to have if you are living in Britain... so...

Astra 2F at 28E (at last!)

that TP has two Sky Sports 1 HD entries and SBO HD2 and Sky Living HD here on my computer. And it comes in here clear as day, 52% signal strength and 100% signal quality on ProgDVB. Maybe Sky is starting to move its content over to 2F?

Astra 2F at 28E (at last!)

worst reading here in Hanover since that TP was lit up... just 15% signal level at the moment, drops to zero about once every 5 to 10 seconds and then comes back, zero percent signal quality throughout. (measured with a Qbox, my netbook and ProgDVB). And WITH my new Inverto LNB which I...

Astra 2F at 28E (at last!)

not respectable enough for my 80cm dish in central Germany, apparently... :-per I get zip on that frequency, not even using CrazyScan.
