how far up on the motor arm should the dish be or wouldnt that make any difference?

Generally somewhere in the lower third, but it isn't critical.

I do suggest that you carefully read all the relevant guides previously mentioned and take note of any illustrations as many of the answers are already there.

when you say the stub arm may be cranked up a bit would that mean the dish elevation would need to come down a bit to compensate

When who says ????

Are you quoting from one of the guides ??

The correct dish elevation will ultimately be found during alignment, by tweaking it a little from the calculated elevation.

NO!!

Please read all the previous posts once more.

The longitude is 0.7 West , not 7.0 West.

The rest is correct (Assuming you mean the entire Motor/Dish assembly is facing South: The dish itselfmust be mounted on the stub using the faint datum mark on the front of the stub)

greengekko, please slow down a little, your posting duplicate questions in haste. May I suggest you sit back and read the helpful guides.

Ah, yes that's right .......... but the table that comes with each type of motor nevertheless gives you the correct dish bracket angle so you don't need to worry.

You can tell at once if it's going to be ok as the dish face will be just a bit up from vertical (as mentioned earlier).

Don't try to overcomplicate this - Take a step back, read the guides and this Thread again, have a cup of tea, then get back to work!

The only thing that bugs me is, if ive got the motor and dish correct why is the dish pointing up rather than near vertical

Perhaps, as previously stated, you've set the Motor to 52 against the wrong scale ..................

What you really need to do now is Post a few piccies of it, from the side, the front, the rear etc. so we can see what's occurring.

Also check to see if the Dish bracket also has two scales (Look on both sides of the bracket).

Make sure you get both the motor and dish in the shot.

Just a thought, but if the dish is really pointing upwards, perhaps you have the dish bracket on upside down? They are made to be fitted both ways as if you lived much closer to the Equator the dish elevation would have to be subsequently higher. Anyway, if you post photos tomorrow we'll probably be able to tell where you are going wrong.
