I enquired prices with Elite mid last year and the 2.2 is actually defined as a 'special item'.

"We would not usually make the 2.0m and 2.2m antennas unless as a special, so I will quote the 1.5m, 1.8m and 2.4m instead if that is ok, the price doesn't vary that much with the in between sizes."

The quote I got for a 2.4 was nearly 10k with no item breakdown, so I didn't even touch it.

I assume that was like everything included, I should have requested a breakdown but stuck with my Raven instead.

Ive been out and strung the DH should use four strings but I can see enough with three, bearing in mind its been shipped from the USA and had 20 years of wind blowing on it, its never moved one bit, very impressed :)

For the quote to be that amount I think that there would have to have been a lot of extras included such as a galvanised tripod ground stand with 4.5" or 6" pole, heavy duty galvanised polar mount, feed waveguides and adapters. Even then, the quote seems very high, although the polar mounts and ground stands are expensive . It's strange that they did not break down the quote, all the quotes I have had from them have been clearly itemised and sent as a pdf document.

I have dug out the prices that one of our former members received from Elite after enquiring about antenna prices. The prices listed below are in line with the price I was quoted for a 2.2m antenna. To be quoted nearly 10K for a 2.4m antenna with no breakdown of items or prices seems very odd considering a former member was quoted £1680?

Channel Master 1.8 Offset Stringing accuracy.

Ok I've just spoken to Julian at Elite antennas very nice helpful guy :). the prices quoted are for dish and back plates only :).

1.8 £672
2.0 £795
2.2 no price atm, I am going to email him for a price,
2.4 £1680.

I dug out my quote...

"2.4m Ku band prime focus antenna including Motorised Single Axis Polar mount restricted to +/- 30 degrees with 24" heavy duty actuator. Receive only Ku band Linear Dual Port Feed with C120 I/F. Frequency range 10.7 to 12.75GHz.
Reflector and Feed Supports supplied powdercoat RAL9010 White.
Polar Head, Kingpost and Tripod Feet supplied hot dipped galvanised. Supplied with RCI Single Axis controller. Wind loading: 70mph operational, 125mph survival."

No breakdown at all. Does seem they chucked everything at that quote though!

If that was a brand new Research Concepts 1500 series single axis controller it would have "stiffened" the quote up nicely, they are expensive brand new.

RCI RC1500 Tracking /Remote Controlled Antenna Controller
For Single Axis Antennas

Plus, VAT at 20% would have been another "stiffener". I can see how it got to almost 10K now.

Wow your right yes. Plenty of items you could ditch then to get the quote down. You could even probably pick the dish up rather than have them quote you a wooden crate and shipping.

Yes, considering what a 1.8m channel master costs brand new, the £672 plus VAT for an Elite 1.8m seems very reasonable and the £672 would include the rear mounting ring.

Your 2.4m install is looking good, it seems that you are going to start with the boffin feed that came with the dish. I assume you will just remove the boffin feed and replace it with a bulldog or PanSat quad feed at some point when you move onto C band? Or, will you rig up a C Band only feed when the time comes?

Yes its a fair price if they will sell one without paint and ring price will come down,

Yes starting with this feed while I decide what I'm going to order, once I have it tracking the arc perfect I will make a C band holder and test a cheap C band lnb, will make some notes along the way of signals for comparison in the future ,

Once I talk the wife round to letting me spend a few £ I will buy and install BE/PS

Eventually later in the year I will be adding declination motor I have a RC unit to add but its AZ/EL I need a new Eprom before I can do anything with it,

John,

Interesting point there, both the 2.8m and 3.0m antenna come in two different focal length versions, I wonder why that is? Are they making offset focus versions on some of the range?

Look at my F/D
SSSSS.PNG
Its all down to how they make the dish, various ways to get the wave length required this has a impact on F/D
